#2 - Behaviour change requirement - is why many businesses, particularly foreign ones fail in India. This is a cash oriented market, just like Russia, Germany etc. Companies like Uber, Amazon etc tried to go the credit card route initially, but didn't see much success. Uber especially was quite stubborn and thought it could get people to change habits. In the end both started accepting cash for payments.

It's much easier to observe customer behaviour at the beginning than to change your business model later on. Yet very few businesses seem to be doing it.

Excellent point. I remember a frenzy SNS apps trying to succeed in 3rd world countries only to fail because they didnt take into account their local issues. WhatsApp took off because of its bare bones approach vs the others.

Very informative and well researched article. Bookmarked it!

The point "Lack Of Knowledge." appear to be very important. For example, when Amazon started with "Kindle" reader, it was a new concept and they had given wide publicity, and ultimately succeeded in it. On the other hand, how a small business could do that?
