Just don't give any information about your account (specially email and password).

There are known scams that are made by email: you get an email supposedly from Paypal, saying that there is an issue with your account, and they give you a link to solve it. When you click the link it shows a fake paypal login screen and that way they can steal your email and password.

Here are some tips on how to prevent Paypal scams: http://www.fraudguides.com/tips/feb11.asp

they might have gotten your phone number and it could be a scam. Ask for them to transfer you to the supervisor and have them verify your info so you know it is real.

Yes, I have had telephone contact from PayPal. There was activity on my account that they wanted to verify.

They did not ask for any personal information associated with the account. They addressed me by my first and last name.

They inquired about some purchases, asked if they were initiated by me. They furnished the merchant's name and transaction date. They explained that the call was related to fraud prevention. Maybe some of the activity that day raised some flags.

I think there may legit reasons why PayPal would initiate telephone contact and as long as they are not asking you to furnish any account information I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Be careful of that people calling on you. You don't know yet if he is an authorized staff of paypal. If you give your information to unauthorized people then they might steal your money.
