Hello I can't really say but I've been using them even before they were legal in South Africa! But I can tell you this I've had some dealing with shady people that have taken my money, and I got nothing in return? But pay pal got them to refund me! So in that respect I can only take my hat off to them.

Do you just need online ecommerce or do you want to take credit cards as well? Paypal is simple and straightforward and you can usually access your money quickly.

For very quick and easy online purchases then Paypal is probably the best solution. It is well known and so (most) people trust it although in our experience it is not universally popular with customers in the Netherlands for some reason :-)

For full-blown ecommerce Paypal is quite expensive but can be easier to set up for a novice.

Note that some processing companies will require a buffer period to wait before you can draw on funds to allow for possible chargebacks where the card owner claims a card has been used fraudulently. With Paypal you can usually take your money out when you want BUT chargebacks are also possible with Paypal so beware.

If you do an intellectual property sale, make a bill showing what the money transfer is for. That way PayPal can confirm who should own the property. I think they are the best. Owned by eBay. Run separate. They have fees but they have good protection. I like that.

There are many who will bash PayPal. I am not one of them.

For a moderate sized site they offer the best transaction rates in the US. They are safe and the name is known by most people who frequent the Internet. If your average sale will be less than $10, you should set your account up as a micro account. Total fees are lower for sales under $12 and higher for those over that amount.

Paypal isn't too bad. I have them, but it is also a good idea to offer an alternative.

Like ScriptMan said, many don't like it. In the past, Paypal made it hard to make purchases. You couldn't purchase anything through Paypal, unless you made an account. That was a hassle.

I like and prefer Google Checkout.

There are others, but I never personally used them, so I can't say speculate about them.

I am using Paypal for 7 years now, and they are IMO the best solution for small ecommerce like us.

Behind Paypal it is working like any gateway payment provider and merchant services, except that you pay fees when you actually make money.

The US post office (USPS) is now accepting PayPal to pay for packaging.

Paypal is accepted in a lot of online stores and it is the most convenient payment that everybody know.

I have never got good conversion rate in Paypal. Besides its fee is very high. I prefer western union or bank transfer.

is certainly the most widely used out there, and must be for something right; I have used it for a while (2-3 years) and haven't had a single problem ***finger cross**

Apart from the rather steep percentage rates they charge for e-commerce, the money is available immediately and I can transfer it to my bank in two days which is faster that AMEX and the same as Visa/MC. So far so good.

I've had different experiences with paypal. Mostly good but if they want to they can be a real pain in the arse. I pay most of my employees through paypal and as I don't like to leave funds in the paypal account I have it debited through paypal by my bank account.

A bank account transfer from Germany to UK has far too many charges attached to it you see. But to my horror when I was sending out the forth payment of the month it wouldn't let me, some sort of rule to deter fraudsters etc and so I was unable to send out a fourth payment via paypal unless I had funds in there.

I assumed this was a method to get users to leave funds in the paypal account so they make the interest. To combat this I basically paid two employees mid month and the others at the end of the month, it's working fine. I have little experience with others but I remember Neteller being okay and Moneybookers too and these are handy to have incase you are dealing with someone who only wishes to use those as opposed to paypal.
