a few questions about the payment process

what method is best if you're selling some sort of e-book or how-to guide?
I'm not currently doing this but I wanted to get some more information on the best way to set something like this up.

for example , let's say you wanted to sell a weight loss guide, or a get six pack abs or whatever. How do you set it up so that once payment is made the e-book is automatically sent to the customer?

is paypal the best method for something like this? What options are better , if any?

PayPal is a good method, but some more alternatives are Alter Pay, PayFlow Pro, Google Check out and more. You can use any of them.

Yes, there are many popular payment processing systems are available. But my vote goes with Alertpay, as it has very user friendly user interface, all processes are easy to understand and reasonable charges.

I only use PayPal for all my online transactions so I cannot speak for other payment methods.

Hello!
Generally PayPal is considered as the quickest and safest online payment method on the Net. It provides a good service to its customers from the US and other European countries. However, if you’re from a country which is out of the range of PayPal, then you can rely on AlertPay or Amazon Payments.

For downloadable goods - www.bigcommerce.com - has a few options. They might be a bit more expensive, but they will handle everything for you.

Plus if you rely on Paypal for other reasons (or plan to) - too many chargebacks and Paypal may suspend / terminate your account. If there are any funds in there, they will be held for up to 180 days

You can try PayPal IPN service. After every successful transaction it returns a confirmation at your specified URL via which you can trace the status of the payment. Based on the status of alert (Successful) you can send a corresponding download link of the book to your customers via mail.
