eBay PayPal Split-Up

What do you think of the eBay/PayPal split-up?
Quote:
Big news in the world of e-commerce. eBay announced that it will separate eBay and PayPal into two independent, publicly-trade companies next year.

Investor Carl Icahn had famously called for such a spin-off, and it looks like he is now getting his wish. He’s reportedly the company’s six-largest shareholder.

Probably a good move.

And, from my cynical side, Ebay only bought them because their pay system was losing to PP.

"Fire Sale?"

Ebay has really turned into a joke.
Which is a shame, because the premise was solid.
- auction for goods
- this no longer fits my needs, maybe someone else would like it

Now it's all about finding that one sucker stupid enough to buy Dollar Bills for a buck fifty.

It seems to be more surprising news and was not expected. According to CEO of Ebay, they were not going to split with Paypal 6 months ago but suddenly the news came up on Tuesday.

I wonder if this means the forever ongoing request for eBay to support more payment gateways will finally be put to rest.

Will have to see how this plays out for the both of them.

It will be for the better. In the end it's all the same money circling, but to the public it would be two different companies.

the split should benefit Paypal more than Ebay as it will focus more as an independed money transform platform

That's good news from Ebay that it will separate eBay and PayPal into two independent, publicly-trade companies next year. We are looking forward to see it. Thanks for sharing such great information among the users.

I really do not like eBay in the slightest. The way that they work with sellers really makes it unattractive for sellers to want to sell something. I have had people who lost their money because someone sent out a complaint but did not actually return the product. Hopefully this opens the gate for more payment options.

Well, long story short - I just hate PayPal's policy towards sellers. I mean limiting accounts for no obvious reason and without any explanations, keeping money for 180 days etc.

PayPal Holdings Files Form 10

Update on this:
Quote:
Today PayPal Holdings. filed a Form 10 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The Form 10 filing is an important step in eBay Inc.’s plan to separate eBay and PayPal into two independent, publicly-traded companies.

The separation of PayPal from eBay will provide strategic flexibility to set up each standalone company for success while preserving the synergies between the two companies and minimizing dis-synergies. We remain focused on setting up both businesses for long-term success, with greater strategic focus and flexibility to capitalize on their respective opportunities as global leaders in commerce and payments.

We believe the separation is on track to be completed in the second half of 2015.

This is a good move for both companies actually. Paypal will be able to make moves to secure inclusion into Amazon's system along with others who refuse to use them now because of their association with eBay. eBay will also be able to better integrate other payment gateways now that they are not going to be tied to Paypal only.

I agree though with others that eBay is horrible for the most part anymore. It seems like most everything comes out of Hong Kong with ultra low prices that no one else can compete with. The quality of many of these products is bad at best.

Personally I prefer to order from Amazon now. More consistent products from them and less hassle. I just hate bidding for days and days only to lose in the last seconds to someone who bids up the price to an outrageous price.

Well... but will it be helping to change any policies of Paypal? Some of its limitations are just annoying

Only time will tell. Will be interesting to see if any policy changes happen.
