PPPay.com and change of T&Cs

I have had a PPPay.com account for a number of years. It is similar to Paypal but used on mostly on ebid.com. I did not use it very much only when i used to buy/sell from ebid. I went to login to it the other day and found they had emptied out all my funds in charges for 'inactive account fees'

Now i looked on their FAQ and could not find any information about how long they consider an account inactive before they start charging their fees so contact them on their support email. After several days I got a reply stating that they had changed their T&Cs in October 2016 so that if your account was inactive (no transactions in 12 months) they would charge a 3 fee every month if your account had a positive balance. PPPay.com claim that they notified me of this change in their terms by email in October 2016 but I have email archives going back to 2013 in my gmail account and there was no email from PPPay. They also hadn't been sending me any notification emails when they took this inactive account fee despite the setting in my PPPay account telling me to send a notification with every transaction on my account.
There support are sticking by there T&Cs and refusing to refund me the 50 they have taken so i am considering taking it up with the Financial services Ombudsman.

Does anyone know the legalities of a service changing their T&Cs and you having to agree to it? Can they just claim to send an email and that covers them to make changes or do they need for you to acknowledge by logging in and ticking a box or clicking that you agree?

Both myself and PPPay are based in the UK so I need to know about UK law if possible.

It might not be a huge amount of money but 50 can buy me a good night down the pub so I am not willing to roll over on this one until I have exhausted all avenues.
