Photography Challenge: People
Okay folks, I think it is time for another photography challenge. This week I want to see pictures of people. See how many different expressions you can capture, Now get out there and find someone to photograph - grab your kid, your neighbor, or even a total stranger, but find someone and start shooting!.
Here are some tips to get you started!
This is a shot of the kid that I captured recently. I have no clue what she was looking at, but I have a feeling it was a boy.

It's raining.
I'm still in my pjs.
Can I look through the pics I took at the Olympics to find something?

We took advantage of last Sunday's beautiful weather and I shot these with a new little Olympus waterproof camera. Not as quick as my digital SLR and I found that I mostly have photos of the side of Owen's head.
I had my first experience with sledding on the levy...... (that's the Texas version of sledding. Not quite an olympic sport yet.) We made some fast friends who had brought cardboard.
Thanks for the video, Cricket - what great tips!!
(That ugly face on Jack is the one I got when I said we had to go home.)

And you can post pictures out of your PJs as well if you want. I'm sure someone will drool.
I got pictures of that dead squirrel in the middle of the road that I took so I can report it to the city. Does that count? I take pictures of stuff like that since the city employees can't figure out street addresses.

Ya know, you post an incredible photo like that and we're all intimidated from the get-go.
I haven't seen a bad photo of her yet.

Photographing her is almost like cheating because she has had a camera in front of her face for so many years that it is very natural for her now.

Alright, I'm doing this for you Cricket. This is my first post and I'm not really sure if I'm doing this right or following the rules for the picture sizes. You'll have to let me know. I took my brother and husband out to take pictures today. I told them to pretend that they were father and son. They were helping me practice.

This is a shot I did late last year at an abandoned railyard in Albuquerque, NM with Lindsay. The shot was taken using a Canon Rebel XTi and 2 strobes. A 430EX II through an umbrella camera left, and a bare LP120 camera right behind model for rim.
The picture has had the "orton" effect applied to it.

WOW Chris! I absolutely love that effect. I am going to have to try it on some stuff this weekend. It definitely adds the wow factor to a shot!

It's an old film technique where you take 2 identical photos, 1 in focus, 1 out of focus, then when you enlarge them you sandwich the 2 slides/exposures together creating a very soft, deep effect around edges and in solid areas, and maintaining detail in finer areas. In photoshop, you duplicate your layer, blur the new layer, set it to Multiply, then reduce the transparency till desired. You can also bump your contrast and colors up a bit to match the traditional effect. It creates very soft skin tones, interesting contrast in colors and edges, and a lot of depth.
