It's started from the tops of pineapples we've eaten. You keep the top and peel off some of the bottom leaves and leave it sit for about a week to "harden" (stump dries out a bit so that it doesn't rot) and then plant it. Takes around 18 months before it'll bear fruit. Once it bears, it usually has a couple of new shoots off of the side of the stem that develop into plants; these take a bout 12 months to bear fruit.

Lot easier to run down to the local market and just buy one, but not as much fum with the grandkids as growing your own.

Wow, i thought it be a few months and bam, you are eating it. Having fun with the grandkids is a good thing. I remember going strawberry picking with my grandparents when i was very young. Some of the best memories i had on the field with them.

Thanks for sharing this information because i just see pineapple in the super market and buy it. lol

Early Spring Flowers

I shot a few last Sunday. Just had not taken the time to crop and size for uploading.

Somehow I missed this post. Smashing. Is that an orchid?

Passion Flower (Lilikoi)

Passiflora edulis flavicarpa

Very unique fragrance. It's a vine that grows wild all over the island. The fruit makes for some great Lilikoi Chiffon Pie.

I went for a walk to the beach to take a few pics, and I remembered this thread, so I took a pic of a plant growing on the sand dunes. It spreads itself all over the dune in a complex maze of branches and leaves and blossoms.
