South, I gotta say, education doesn't make people smart. It just makes them educated.

What does define "smart" then. Accomplishment? Highest office in Americas largest state carrying the biggest crossover vote in history. Election into the highest office of the worlds most powerful nation.
Say you dislike him, disagree with him...whatever, but all the "he's a stupid man" talk just doesn't describe him well, whether you use formal education or real life accomplishments as a guage.

When I say "smart" I usually intend to indicate an ability to understand.

Wouldn't the ability to understand and comprehend be essential to to aquire degrees from Ivy League colleges, and the ability to understand and connect with people essential to successful politics?

South, most educate simply requires that you remember what is taught, not understand what isn't.

Richard Perle, foreign policy adviser: "The first time I met Bush 43 … two things became clear. One, he didn't know very much. The other was that he had the confidence to ask questions that revealed he didn't know very much."
David Frum, former speechwriter: "Bush had a poor memory for facts and figures. … Fire a question at him about the specifics of his administration's policies, and he often appeared uncertain. Nobody would ever enroll him in a quiz show."
Laura Bush, spouse: "George is not an overly introspective person. He has good instincts, and he goes with them. He doesn't need to evaluate and reevaluate a decision. He doesn't try to overthink. He likes action."
Paul O'Neill, former treasury secretary: "The only way I can describe it is that, well, the President is like a blind man in a roomful of deaf people. There is no discernible connection."

Fair enough. My only point is that he has been fairly successful in many large life quests. Quests well above what the vast majority even attempt. When he's characterized as a drooling moron it bothers me a bit. Not because of any particular affection for the man (there is some) but because it belittles a lifetime of accomplishment.

If Bush is stupid, he can not be educated. Being smart and being educated go hand in hand.
smart
1. Characterized by sharp quick thought; bright.
If he was stupid and slow, there is no way he would have done well at Harvard and Yale.
Give it a break, we can all call people names.
He was smart enough to get 60,000,000 idiots to vote for him, right?

Reagan wasn't treated much better. Most presidents aren't. They become beloved after office...seldom during it.

I know "educated" people who are dumb as rocks. A degree doesn't mean you're smart...it just means you can endure torture.

In order to take a test and pass effectively, you have to be smart. Tests have time limits and require fast, educated thinking of recalling information.
Unless you believe he guessed his way through Harvard and Yale.

I keep wondering what that means. You guys mean you think his father purchased votes from citizens, paid his professors to pass him...what? Or do you just mean that his daddy paid for his schooling and funded career ventures. So did millions of American fathers. So what? He had to get the job done.
