John Kerry Should...........
Shut his mouth and keep it shut...UNLESS...he is apologizing to all past and current members of the military. And he also needs to say he is sorry to all the families of the Veterans of the Military that gave their lives to protect our freedoms. And continue to make sacrafices everyday.
I thought his comments regarding the fact that if you don't get a good education you get stuck in Iraq, is a slap in the face to all members of the Military.
Apparently he doesn't know that West Point, The Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy have very high standards, and to get into these fine Institutions you have to be the best of the best !!!!
And many of the jobs in the military for enlisted men and women involve some of the most sophisticated technology available, these people are far from uneducated !!
To all our Men in Women in the Military I salute you, and To John Kerry, I salute you with just ONE FINGER !!!!!!!

Yes, that was a really dumb thing to say. Pretty much just called every member of the military a moron.

Taken out of context, yea it sounds wrong. I was shocked when I first heard about it. I heard about it on talk radio. But if you take the time to find out the whole story, it was a dig at Bush...not at the military.

Well if this guy has aspirations of leading this country in the future, maybe he should be careful how he says things. Not that President Bush could speak his way out of a wet paper bag, because he's not the best speaker out there, matter of fact he's terrible at public speaking.
My point is, if Sen Kerrys' comments were taken out of context by Americans, how will his comments on issues be taken by foreign leaders, and our "enemies" !!
Scary too no ?

Of course. I think he should have perhaps worded it better.

That's a bunch of BS. If it was an attack on Bush then he could of easily said, you may end up in the white house or something like that. It's not like Bush is "stuck" in Iraq. He was trying to use Iraq as a scare tactic and it back fired.
As an ex-pilot in the Air Force, I found it very insulting. Joke or no joke. Just because "it was a joke" does not make it right to say something like that. If it was a racial statement, the reactions would have been the same. As a matter of fact Kerry was suppose to be in Minnesota today and I just heard he backed out due to all the negative exposure due to his BAD sense of humor.

sounds like a dumb thing to say yes but it begs the question why would he say it if it was not at least partly true?
Correct me if i am wrong but West Point and the other academies are just for officer training are they not? Given the sheer strain on the Us forces right now with the Iraq war, the forces need a lot of people and I would think that for those who are under educated, one of your options for employment is the armed forces. This does not imply however that people who are uneducated are stupid, there are many decisions that we make (or are made for us) that might result in someone not going to college, it does not mean you are stupid, just that you have fewer opportunities for employment and therefore one of those is the armed forces.

Whatever. Personally I am not a fan of him, but no politician in their right mind would come out and say people in the military are morons. Especially not one with higher aspirations, and who was in the military himself. That would make him a moron too, remember, and I doubt he's going to go around saying that. He totally ****ed up in how it came out, and yea, it wasn't that great of a joke. He should be kicking himself in the ass right about now.

The military has education requirements. You can't say that for a lot of other employers. It's just a really un-educated thing to say, that the military are un-educated.

i agree it was a stupid thing to say
and yes I am sure they do have requirements, being uneducated on paper doesn't mean that people don't have the skills and know-how to do just about anything. As with most jobs you learn most of what you need to do in the job, not in school.

That's correct. You have to take a placement test (like SAT). Based on how you do on that test, you qualify for specific jobs. I've taken both and the military exam is more difficult than the SAT. Each branch has different criteria and score you differently. The higher you score the better jobs you can get in the military.
And, yes Kerry is a moron for even thinking something like what he said would be funny. I used to always give him the benefit of doubt but this was just bad taste.

-- Sen. John Kerry issues a statement saying: "I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended" by comments he made about being "stuck in Iraq."

Even though he was very clear that he wouldn't apologize . . . flip-flopper. LOL!

Ugh. I nearly puked when I heard about this major gaffe. Here the Democrats seem to be hedging the Republicans, and he has to go and say something that they could hitch and ride to the polls. AUGH! On top of that, it was an incredibly irresponsible thing for a past, and possibly future, presidential candidate to say. I don't think we've heard the end this.
Plus, Democrats need to define a clear platform apart from "Republicans suck!" That will only go so far with voters. Give us something to chew on! We're ready to chew! Masticate away! Pleaaaseeeeee!!!!
