Yahoo News...
an interesting quote...
Quote:

Later, his lawyer said the former dictator had called on Iraqis to reject sectarian violence and refrain from revenge against U.S. forces.

This is not surprising. I think everyone assumed it would happen eventually. Perfect timing too with elections coming up.

A hundred years from now, Muslims will be killing Muslims. The names will change, but the killing won't.

Julie... you say that.. "perfect timing with elections coming up"
But it shouldnt have ANY influence on it if it does.
Not sure if it does.. but thats not right to say either.
I think personally he should have just been shot dead back in early 90's after gulf war!
The SAS had him in sight from what I read somewhere.
But regradless..these things should NOT have anything to do with your elections.
You are NOT electing on the basis of anyone getting hanged...

Oh, I know that. But people aren't always logical in their voting. They'll vote for a candidate cuz they think they're cute, or because their sister is voting for them, or because of any stupid reason.

Should have NOTHING to do with it akash... THE only thing the voters should think about is HOW that vote effects their lives... NOT saddams.

Depends what you mean by perfect timing for the elections.
If there is a Iraqi backlash, then the sh!t will really hit the fan.
A lot of Iraqis see him as a martyr and this could have interesting consequences.

You know what's funny about that? The democrats in Washington are worried that the rain we're getting right now (borderline record rain) will cause a major problem for them... democrat-voters go to the polls, but not in the rain! LOL. and republican voters (like me) vote absentee... LOL

A lot of Democratic voters don't have cars. Maybe that's got something to do with the rain theory.

I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. And at least in my area, standing in the voting line can sometimes go outside the building. That would suck. I actually used to go in to vote because I felt more patriotic... but the absentee's get the job done without lines.

Know what's weird.....someone was just talking about this same thing here at my work a few minutes ago. They said if it wasn't raining they would make it out, otherwise probably not. Another person agreed. A lot people here in the city don't have cars and stuff, and won't go out if the weather is bad.
I go rain or shine, and I usually walk over to the location if its not raining. I thought about doing absentee, but never got around to it. Before there were all kinds of restrictions on who could vote absentee, but now anyone can and you don't have to give a reason. I usually go after work, and its not too busy. The most I've ever had to wait was about 7 minutes.
However, since my work is a polling location... I do see that some places get major traffic, and do have big lines. We usually get a steady flow here.
