Donald Rumsfeld Resigns!
Quote:

President Bush today introduced Robert Gates, his nomination for Defense Secretary, as a man who will "provide the department with a fresh perspective and new ideas" for the Iraq war. Outgoing secretary Donald Rumsfeld has been widely criticized for his handling of Iraq.

Go to CNN.com or Time.com or pretty much any news site for your choice of spin.
How many of you who voted Democrat, yesterday, predicted that this would be one of the results of your success? How many of you who voted Republican, yesterday, were worried that this might be one of the prices of your failure?

It was kind of a given that if the Dems kicked ass he would have to resign.

I hope they get a Democrat for Pres in the next election. Would be nice to have the Democrats in full control, so they can take full responsibility for the failings of the country.

Hmm. I dunno. I'm not so sure about the Democratic candidates that have been suggested.... I don't like any of them that have been mentioned really.

What a disgrace.
"I'm not resigning...I'm not resigning"
*Democrats control Senate & House
"I Quit"
Sell Out....shows how weak he really was as a leader.

Well how about Bush too then? Saying he was keeping him no matter what the outcome of the elections? And then as soon as the Dems take over, "we need a fresh perspective"...

Bush is just trying to survive the rest of his term so in the History books he can look decent.

It's rather rich that one of the most partisan incumbencies in history is now forced to act all mealy-mouthed and talk about co-operation. I'll have some relish with that.

Two other options for the poll: "Voted Republican, surprised" and "Voted Democrat, surprised."
Given all the fervent rhetoric from before, I'm actually surprised that it happened. Bush kept saying "he's with me until the end of my term," etc., etc. Then the very day after the election: "Bye." Strange. And well, he's 74, so he must be tired.

I'm not sure that's what it shows - I'm guessing he didn't have much choice in the matter of his resignation.

Partisan politics? That's kind of dumb when both parties have a combined IQ of 12, no?
Why do people do this partisan politics crap? You think the Democrats are better than the Republicans? Or vice versa? You see any difference at all?

I do see see a difference in their attitudes. The current administration has been going around like some testosterone-fuelled teenager. I mean, Bush in a flight suit, Mission Accomplished, it's schoolboy posturing. He reminds me of that Star Wars kid.
In terms of whether one is better than the other at actually running the country or keeping their hands out of the till, no, probably not. As I see it all politicians are much the same.

Yeah. Their turn anyway. They're overdue for a good thrashing next.

A difference in ability/effectiveness? Maybe not so much, but I'd say there's a difference in attitude. I'd be much more comfortable with a failing administration that attempts to be more diplomatic than one who says "**** the rest of you guys, we're doing what we want".
Sure, they both fail in many aspects. But that doesn't mean they're the same.
Anyway, I interpreted your post as a shot at democrats. My post was a shot at republicans. I don't see how my statement is any more "partisan politics crap" than yours.

Not at all. Frankly, there is no real difference between the parties. Both parties raise taxes, both parties increase spending and increase government programs. So it wasn't a shot at Democrats so much as a shot at American politics.
I said what I said because if one party is clearly in control, then when everything continues to fail, that party cannot evade responsibility.
The Democrats have been whining for some time now, suggesting that if they were in power that crime would drop, unemployment would disappear, terrorists would stop being terrorists and cars would stop polluting the air.
Well, let's hope for a Democrat for Pres, so we can see them fall on their face just like the Republicans.
