Politician wants to censor tv ads

The bill would make it illegal to run advertising for "any obscene matter"

What's wrong with those people? Don't they know how to zap to another channel when they don't like what they see?

This is America for you. They have to rule everything their way. Oh plus they're too lazy to use a remote (or heaven forbit get up and turn the TV off)

Yeah, down here, puritans and moralists wouldn't get a chance to get so much attention, while in the US they populate the congress.

Japan doesn't censor much. I think it takes it a bit too far.Any kid could turn on the TV and see some girl masturbating in front of a bunch of guys. Not good for kids.

What time do they broadcast that John?
Down here, all the 'adult' stuff on tv is after 9 pm, when kids are sleeping.

Here in JP, nudity is everywhere. Even in train stations there are posters with nudity advertising magazines, etc.

Same here, but nudity is not 'sex'. Every normal childs knows how boobs look like, in Europe (and Japan, obviously too) nudity is not considered a danger for a child's soul, unlike in prude America for example, where stutues are covered because of a boob. In Europe Americans would be shocked when they go to the beach, most girls are topless on the beach down here.
There's a huge difference between sex and nudity, but somehow prudes never get that, that's their problem, it's them who have a sick mind and see all nudity in a sexual context.

Nudity isn't sex, but it can be sexual depending on the treatment.

Indeed, it is all about INTENT, puritans just don't get that, they regard every bit of nudity as sexual and therefor damaging.
Remember how Ashcroft reacted to that statue? Or how America reacted when they saw a split second glimp of Jackson's boob?

Ferre, I am sure there are some freaks in your neck of the woods too.
Having said that, some of it just porn. Like the Robert Mapplethorpe stuff.
Gay porn dressed up as art is still gay porn.

Yep, sure there are, but they don't dominate our politics and culture, they are considered freaks, that Ashcroft dude is considered a freak by our standards too, did you know he boasted about annointing himself with cisco oil? (seriously)

Yeah, that. (We don't have that brand down here, was a typo) He really did that, and boasted about it too, down here that would destroy every single politician's credibility the moment they admit to do that sort of idiocy.
