Fascism, anyone?
The USA is in a very pittyful state at present times and I'm afraid it is beyond repair.
What will happen, I guess, is that those grassroots organisations (and maybe even forums like this one), are going to move their servers to places outside the USA, where fascism doesn't own politics (yet).

Hmmm... here's the summary for the Amendment from the US Senate's Library of Congress site:
S1; Section 220; amendments
Which reads: "To amend the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 to establish criminal penalties for knowingly and willfully falsifying or failing to file or report certain information required to be reported under that Act, and for other purposes."
But I can't find what "certain information" refers to...

Every group known to the American public is up in arms on this. I can't imagine it passing. Dobson is campaigning like a madman against it (he's sent more than a few pieces of bad legislation to the grave), and it's getting harsh opposition from every side. Amendments to remove that part are already on the table.
I'd be horribly surprised if it passed as-is.

Well, maybe they'll just staple it to the back of something else then - like war funding perhaps!!!

That's what people were thinking about the patriot act and loads of other totally fascist, constitution-undermining laws too brother, not one of those acts did not pass.

I agree it's dangerous...don't get me wrong. Usually this type of thing gets through when it's "slid" through on something else, as they tried to do with this. Now that it's public knowledge, we'll see. This is the time when concerned Americans start calling reps. That's what kills these gremlins.

The patriot act had a lot of public support and still has quite a bit. There's simply no upside to this other thing. On a realistic level there's a huge difference.

In my opinion, before a problem can be solved, it has to be regognized and admitted to be a problem first, and the general American public still lives in denial for the fact that their country is in the hands of a bunch of criminally insane fascists. As long as the general public still don't want to admit that they are living in a fascist police state, no action will be taken to change one little bit and the fascist will keep a free hand and laws like that will continue to get passed.

Can you say - "Regulate This"
This is getting absurd, I'll tell you what, when they tell me I can't smoke in my own vehicle or home, then they can put me in jail for that too.
I go into the garage, basement or downstairs bathroom alot to smoke, and I've read where some nut cases want to make it illegal for people with kids to smoke at home.
I've heard where some businesses want a rule that states if you are on your break at work in your own vehicle, that if you are parked on their property you can't smoke, what the heck is all this regulation about.
And to think I made fun of the Russians, back in the 1960s and 1970s. Oh crap I hope this new loan isn't retroactive, could I get in trouble for this post if it is ???????????

Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism (PATRIOT act 2001)
Sec. 202. Authority to intercept wire, oral, and electronic communications relating to computer fraud and "abuse offenses".
(I added the quotes for emphasis) What constitutes an "abuse offense" exactly? Come to think of it what the hell is "computer fraud"?

Not getting any better, what to think of this insanity;
Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Pentagon has drafted a manual for upcoming detainee trials that would allow suspected terrorists to be imprisoned or put to death using hearsay evidence and coerced testimony. According to a copy of the manual obtained by The Associated Press, a terror suspect's defense lawyer cannot reveal classified evidence in the person's defense until the government has a chance to review it. The manual, sent to Capitol Hill on Thursday and scheduled to be released later by the Pentagon, is intended to track a law passed last fall by Congress restoring President Bush's plans to have special military commissions try terror-war prisoners. Those commissions had been struck down earlier in the year by the Supreme Court.
