I live in the UK and actually like it here but when it comes to incidents like this, I wouldn't know who to believe.

The UK has a bad track record on stuff like that, look at the sinking of the General Belgrano ship.

I agree with G10 on that one. Plus, the last I heard the UK wasn't releasing their official coordinates until "things get escalated." What does that mean? Either they were in Iranian waters or they weren't. Photos, data, or any sort of definite evidence on both sides must exist.

I can't argue for the UK government but yesterday on the news they played an interview with the UK Foreign Office (is its boss's title "foreign minister"?). He summoned Iranian ambassador and then asked him to provide coordinates where the sailors had been scooped. Reportedly, the Iranian coordinates also indicated the Brits were captured outside Iranian territorial waters.

It's true. It's not a matter of believing the Brits or Iranians - Iranians own coordinates said that it was Iraqi water.

Bloody hell, how scary is that.

They know fully well that they are fueling the situation and also that there is no way that they can win in such a conflict due to what is also going on.

They are either insane or they know something we don't.

They know what has been public knowledge for some time;
US (with a close ally UK) have been on a rampage in Middle East.
US wants to build some new "nuclear shield" in Czech Republic and Poland.
Russians are running scared with the closeness of too many foreign powers in Asia these days. They also still have a sense of humiliation (fall of the USSR) while Russian nationalism has never been better.

Russians sold some nuclear stuff to Iran only a few weeks ago, and just a few days ago warned the US again any military action in Iran.

Throw in China's interest in the region (geopolitcs and oil), Pakistan's situation (there were rumors of pretty hot, nearly revolutionary sentiments inside the country) and don't discount India's power. That pretty much are the major elements of what Iranians know. The whole region is a mess.
