This thread is about whether you agree with cannabis causing psychosis or not. Please read first few posts before you post.

Did you know that before the discovery of Marijuana's electro-psychotic properties, it was used as a punative instrument in primitive criminal justice proceedings? Defendents convicted of crimes ranging from murder to illegal file sharing suffered having rocks of Marijuana thrown at them until they died from the wounds. This was known as "getting stoned."

File sharing, or rather vile sharing, is a virtual remnant of the evil empire of communism, commonly known as the Soviet Union or the Warsaw Pact.
File sharing was developed by Soviet intelligence during the cold war as a device to undermine Western youth's faith in capitalism, market economy and private property.
File sharing first started with the communist invention of the tape recorder, a device that made it possible to copy tunes from privately owned LP-records and illegitimately spread them amongst teenagers in suburbia and the commoners in Common land. To carve communists out of simple ignorant people was then, as now, their strategy.
Step two came with the Kremlin's development of the MP3 virus (Moscovite Perestrojka Tree) and the P2P (Power To the People) sharing technique which was released on the internet in 1988, slightly before the crumble and fall of the evil communist empire.

"Does marijuana use cause psychosis?" That's the premise, right? Let's take a look ...
MedicineNet.com:
Quote:
Psychosis: In the general sense, a mental illness that markedly interferes with a person's capacity to meet life's everyday demands. In a specific sense, it refers to a thought disorder in which reality testing is grossly impaired.
...
Psychosis can occur as a result of brain injury or disease, and is seen particularly in schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. Psychotic symptoms can occur as a result of drug use, but this is not true psychosis.
...(here's the part I like)...
In cases that do not respond to medication, electroshock therapy (ECT) is sometimes valuable.
|
So that's a "no" from MedicineNet.com.
WebMD.com (among others):
Quote:
Delusional disorder, previously called paranoid disorder, is a type of serious mental illness called a "psychosis" in which a person cannot tell what is real from what is imagined.
...
What Causes Delusional Disorder?
As with many psychotic disorders, the exact cause of delusional disorder is not yet known. Researchers are, however, looking at the role of various genetic, biological, and environmental or psychological factors.
...
Environmental/psychological: Evidence suggests that delusional disorder can be triggered by stress. Alcohol and drug use also might contribute to the condition. People who tend to be isolated, such as immigrants or those with poor sight and hearing, appear to be more vulnerable to developing delusional disorder.
|
So that's a "no" from WebMD.com. You can probably spin that, but you might as well say genetics "causes" psychosis, if you can forget about the environmental part. (Is being delusional caused by genetics, or by growing up in a household full of delusional people?) or (Does being in the Bush Administration cause psychosis, or were those people already nuts?)
There is a recent study done at Yale University that gave straight THC and CBD to a whole 15 SUBJECTS (talk about a huge sample size) and then stuffed them into an MRI machine to see how the subjects' brain activity looked. Have you ever been in an MRI machine? And they have the temerity to suggest that it was the THC that made the subjects psychotic!
To answer to this question, it might be best if you Google'd "define:psychosis" and glanced at the amazing variety of "definitions". As a result of your search, you will be convinced that marijuana use absolutely does NOT "cause" psychosis.
Heck, it actually seems like psychosis is a baseline condition for most of humanity! Try it for yourself ... take some or any of the definitions you find and see if they apply to you or to anyone you know. Chances are, you'll see quite quickly that if you're NOT psychotic, you're really, really boring.
<edit>
On a side note, back when I was a kid, growing up but not partaking in a pot-laced, hippie environment, we used to call "psychosis" "a healthy imagination". Realizing that, for some people, their imaginary friends might include Paris Hilton, and they would be prosecuted for stalking, disassociating oneself from reality is not a bad thing, sometimes. And pot is much cheaper than, say, Thorazine, Prolixin, Haldol, Navane, Stelazine, Trilafon, Mellaril, Risperdol, Clozaril, Seroquel, Geodon, Zyprexa or any of the other "approved drugs" for treating psychotic "disorders." I know ... pot is not for treating psychosis ... it's for causing it ... but a couple of big ol' hits and you won't care if what you feel is defined as psychosis, now will you?

That's what I was saying earlier. I along with many other people do not believe in any form of condition known as "psychosis". It simply does not exist. That includes "common" disorders such as schizophrenia. A non-existant disease. Nothing can "cause" these apart from social reactions in society. Perhaps the social reaction to marijuana is the cause. In which case this premise "Does marijuana use cause psychosis" would be correct: Marijuana DOES cause psychosis - but psychosis is not a real condition, it is simply a social phenomenum. In terms of physicalities, marijuana does NOT cause psychosis, because nothing physical causes it.
