i am british and i know that this page is for Americans to comment but come on!!! some of the comments are lovely and they paint a beautiful image of our beautiful country, and i am very gratefull for all those who have wrote wonderfull words. In contrast there are small minded comments like from kristeejo that says lets go and invade Britain, get a grip it was over 300 years ago and ur country celebrates it but if u think about it, it can be sumed up in 1 "Okay guys, one more thing, this summer when you're being inundated with all this American bicentennial Fourth Of July brouhaha, don't forget what you're celebrating, and that's the fact that a bunch of slave-owning, aristocratic, white males didn't want to pay their taxes!" When use do celebrate the 4th of July think of the reason behind why??
And another thing, what realy pees me off is that I love my country so much but it is trying to become like America, no offence intended to all those from the Great US of A but i love our attitudeds and are liberalness we are a freeminded state, with free press on a national stage!
I love Britain and i do not dislike Americans but i do dislike ill informed pillicks that think they know it all when they cannot view past their state lines! x

Welcome to v7n Courtney
I am from Chester, just down the road, a bit like Liverpool but posher (sorry, my dry UK humour comming out there)
This is going to kill me to say as I hate that loudmouthed, jumped up little imp also known as Kristeejo so I will only say this once...
Kristeejo actually has a pretty good and dry sense of humour herself and sometimes (rarely though) it can be seen in her posts and this is one of those times
*goes off to wash mouth out after saying such things*
Stick around and if you're lucky, you may get to hate her as much as me

Wow. Not only mean spirited but amazingly inaccurate.
Welcome aboard BTW. I'm personally pro-Brit. God save the Queen and all that. Cool accents, Eliza Doolittle, Look kids...Big Ben Parliament, Mont Python "It's only a flesh wound". What's not to like?
We did spank you fannies, though....and aristocrats were thinly represented on the field.

I like the British ;-) My e-commerce developer is Brit in England and I've got a lot of fun with him. I know that this tread is for Americans, but as a French I wanted to post this.
I love the Brit humour, mentality, and their optimism !
The only thing I don't like is their food :-)

This American thinks Britain's citizens are close allies and friends we can count on in a pinch. I would like to think most American's would stand by Britains side if we were asked.
The problem is President Bush tested this friendship, and he continues to lie to the American people. Bush will probably go down in history as one of the worst American Presidents. So my British friends please do not hold us American citizens accountable for Bush's actions.
I think both the American and British feel as if they are being opressed and their elected officials are mostly failures.

Why not? Nobody but American citizens were allowed to vote for your President. You can't call him President and then wash your hands of his actions. Take responsibility for your voting actions.
I hope you've learned your lesson! Be more careful next time.

I did not vote for that knob. So no lesson to learn. But even die hard Republicans are now running around with their tails tucked between their legs wondering how they could elect such a failure of a President. Bush's approval ratings paint the true picture.
Most Republican's will be tossed out of office when their terms expire. I think this article explains how even Republican strongholds are being taken over by Democrats.
I'd personally like to see some true Independents gain some power. As it stands now, the choices of elected officials are so poor it's no wonder why so many people don't vote.

So you are familiar with British terminology!
Twice! I can forgive you guys for the first time, after all Daddy Bush wasn't so bad. But twice! Come on. What happened?

Twice because he was the strongest, most desirable candidate running at the time.
Lots of presidents have low approval ratings by the second term. They've spent years and years being attacked daily by whoever the opposition is and being blamed for everything from world politics to soap scum rings. They typically have a much higher retrospective approval rating, and Bush will be remembered as a president with backbone who did what had to be done and was the right man for the job at the time.
Don't forget that the Reagan, the greatest president of our time, was attacked daily by the liberals using most of the exact same attacks they use against Bush. They smeared Reagan as a liar (just like with Bush) called him an idiot (just like with Bush), called him a international bully (just like with Bush) for calling for the wall to come down, and branded him as a power hungry war monger (just like with Bush) for building arsenals to intimidate and protect against Russia.
The short of it is that Democrats aren't all that creative. Bush certainly is no Reagan, but the libs are using the same lame smear lines.
They whined through 8 years of the Clinton administration and whined through 8 years of the Bush administration. Get the pattern here? Those who wallow in self defeat live for the next "gimme", not the next opportunity. Who's in office really doesn't matter, they mostly only care that someone is willing to think for them, feed them, house them, and tell them everything will be OK.

I think Bush will be remembered as an inexperienced President that made some poor decisions which will have a lasting impact on this country for years to come. His domestic policy is non-existent, with the exception of two tax rebates. These tax rebates are no different then a Democrat taxing and giving the money away. In both cases, someone (taxpayers) will need to pay for this. Republicans had control of the Presidency, House, and Senate for four years. What did they really accomplish?

I completely agree that Democrats are not creative. But the creativity the Republicans showed when in power for four years leaves little to be desired as well.

I agree. I'd rather see government deal with the major issues such as national security (including economic security), infrastructure, entitlements, failed government agencies, etc. I can feed and insure myself, providing the crumbling bridges and roads I use to travel on don't collapse.
Democrats want to tax then give, while Republicans want to give tax rebates and have you spend it. Neither party has the spine to deal with the real issues facing this country, and they certainly don't care that they are running out of red ink to assume more debt...

You see Snowbird, there are at least two that would quite happily make the same mistake a third time if they could. And you don't want us Brits to wonder about you guys

Thank you for that. I feel the same way about Americans - we've had our differences but we still stand shoulder to shoulder, we stand up for the same things and we're not terribly interested in world dominatination, just prosperity. Though our leaders leave a lot to be desired, as you say. And the West has made a damn good fist of prosperity if you ask me.
