You're kidding me.....
You could fit Britain into one American state and yet do you recall what this little Island had a few years back?
Not interested in world domination... We almost controlled the damned world due to the size of the British Empire dude

We sought merely to educate and elevate the natives, whilst robbing them as a gentleman's sideline.

As for the comments afterwards, they were just having a laugh also.

Well that depends on who your favourite doctor is, any other than Tom Baker and I'll have my doubts

DAMN I miss this forum!
This is one of the best threads I've stumbled on in a long time. It's so V7N! It verges on all out warfare. It has a one-on-one between John and Ferre (my all-time favorite match). It has Brits trying to persuade Americans to answer the initial question favorably. It has some sideliners throwing in some choice comment from time to time. It's all so splendid.
Before I comment on what I think of the British people and their country I want to point out how sad it is how we humans prejudge one another based on what the person looks like, where they're from, where they live, what they drive, etc.... There are fantastic people in this world and there are those who should be trampled by centipedes. You can find both in ANY society. It's really should be all about the individual.
Ok then.
I think very highly of Brits. They're every bit as good as Americans. No better, no worse.
I think their government is too much about political power/control and too little about getting things done for citizens. Pretty much the same problem we have in the U.S..
The British media has gone too far across lines that should never have been crossed. It's become trashy, tabloidie, junkie. Very opposite the proud traditions I think of when I think of the UK. The British media is ahead of our media and I'm concerned we're following suit.
That said, I think our government here in the U.S. has become far too Brit-like. We threw the Brit government out over taxation and now we too are becoming Socialists. Very sad.
As for the jibberish throughout the thread about Americans not knowing the history of the U.S. and the other insults, I'd just point out that the posters here may not be a good representation of our populace. Either way, don't generalize.
Cheers,
Mauiman

Why Britons are so concerned about what Americans think about them? Why can't they rather ask "What the WORLD thinks about Britain?"

Why should a country such as Britain or the U.S. worry about what the entire world thinks about them, does Russia or China worry to no end what the entire world thinks about them? (In public any how) Does Cuba, or Venezuela or Africa worry about the entire worlds opinion on how they run their societies or how it's people are?
You can't please everyone all the time...nonsense in even trying

Indeed! and that is my question .... Britons' (or any other people) dont care what the world thinks about them ... why care what US thinks?
Just trying to understand ....... what is so special about what US thinks? :-)
