BitTorrent Admin Monitored by US Government, Forced to Dump Linux

Sk0t, an ex-administrator of the EliteTorrents BitTorrent tracker is to have his internet connection forcibly monitored by the US Government. If that wasn’t bad enough, the monitoring software is Windows based - which means he is being forced to ditch Linux - or face being barred from the internet.

Welcome to George Orwell's 1984 - combined with Huxley's Brave New World.

Wow!
Internet usage monitoring, jail time, probation, felony convictions, ankle bracelet tracking.
This guy must be a high level terrorist.
I guess he was one of the hijackers for 9/11 or something.

Yep, he is a terrorist, he was a threat to the profits of the film industry, which is owned by the weapon industry which in their turn ownes the current US administration.
We can't let those damn communist peasants run around and be a threat to their profits now can we?

This is a slightly off-topic post of mine, but... amazing book.

he pleaded guilty to two charges - ‘conspiracy to commit copyright infringement’ and ‘criminal copyright infringement’.

Yes, indeed, what kind of sick society monitors the activity of self-professed criminals.

A society which politicians and judges praise Jesus-and-the-bible every second sentence but cannot grasp what the message really is about maybe?
Quote:
"All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need." (Acts 2:44-45).
"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had… There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need." (Acts 4:32,34,35)
"Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." (Luke 18:25)
"People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all evil." (1 Timothy 6:9,10)
"Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share." (1 Timothy 6:17,1
"Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who loved him? But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?" (James 2:5-7)
"Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourself in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you." (James 5:1-6)

I have to assume that this bizarre behavior is drug induced. Or is there a point?

Ya know I'm a Linux user myself and cannot see the big deal with all this. The guy screwed up, committed a couple of felonies and agreed for his internet usage to be monitored.
As for the US government not having monitoring software for Linux: Is that really a surprise? Huge software developers don't support Linux, haven't for a long time and probably never will.. You honestly expected our technically inept government to hack Linux?
It's not like their forcing the guy to use Windows, just don't use the computer if it's so much of a problem for you. The biggest FOSS apps for Linux have windows ports anyhow, what's the big deal?

As usual, your assumptions miss the point.

I hate to see the future of internet security. We better enjoy its freedom while we can.
