Wately, as annoyingly usual, makes a good point, sarcasm can be easily misinterpreted. This is an international forum with varying degrees of English comprehension and cultural norms. To avoid being misunderstood it is best to speak plainly at all times. The reader must know not only what you say but where you come from and your literary ability otherwise.
I generally avoid sarcasm except in its most blatant form and tailor my posts to those it is aimed at. I often simplify my language if I feel it is appropriate.
Mikey: I get that you find it objectionable and in all honesty I am trying to see it from your point of view, but all I can see is a baby being done out of a well needed meal and a bit of comfort from its mother, and a mother being denied her right to feed her baby where she chooses, (at least in the UK, not sure about the US). I want to understand your objections to it, why is it rude? Is not someone farting in a restaurant more rude, blowing their nose, burping? I would rather see these things banned first.

Like many debates, there is never really a right or wrong answer because many times it simply comes down to a matter of personal opinion.

I think that if a women has any self-respect, they will make every effort to breastfeed their child at home or discreetly.
|
I think we have to have more respect for other people's choices.
I know most of my female friends would never breast feed in public. Now you have to ask yourself "why?"
Let's ask. Why?
"Because boobs are sexual."
Okay, fine, I respect that. A lot of people consider boobs to be sexual. Probably because you hide them all the time.
But for a lot of women I've had sex with, ears are also very sexual. Necks, too. Inner thigh. Lips are extremely erotic. But we don't have a problem with people showing those in public.
I know a lady who was raised in a (sort of) commune environment on Hawaii. Naked. Everybody was. It wasn't sexual, either, so she doesn't consider it sexual to reveal her breasts, and she did breast feed in public.
So, what I'm saying is, if you choose not to breast feed in public, I won't call you a prude. Those are your values. If you choose to breast feed in public, I won't call you a whore. Those are your values. Everybody is different.
As to the topic question, I think restaurants have a right to refuse service to anybody they want. I wouldn't kick somebody out for breast feeding, but that's me.

It always boils down to each women's value. It's their choice whether to show-off their breast to breastfeed their child in public but I think it's still the prerogative of every restaurants whether to prohibit or not the breastfeeding act on their vicinity coz afterall it's their place, right?
Alright, just to clear myself, I am PRO to breastfeeding at all cost BUT there are certain instances that you're view isn't just the one prevailing neither all people will agree, so you just to have understand others' opinion as well.

I will give you an example between Europeens and Americans.
Situation: A couple a kissing each other in public (French Kiss) lol.
American way: Some people will tell you to go the hotel.
Europeen way: Oh this couple is in love lol
As you can see there is a different approach to comment this situation.
As John said: 'Okay, fine, I respect that. A lot of people consider boobs to be sexual. Probably because you hide them all the time."
When you see thousands women topless on the beach it doesn't bother me, so breast feeding is a normal thing. Many people these days want to change the natural things or even the nature, that's so wrong.

I know, i'm being a little sarcastic, however, I do agree that for the babies, it's important they get breast fed, completely with you there. I'm not saying it should be banned, my point is, make rooms for them to do it in, or at least make sure that these woman know, that its not 100% natural to, breast feed your kid in a restaurant at the bloody dinner table. Know what I mean?
Not trying to offend the ladies here, I think breast feeding your baby is a wonderful thing, i know im jealous of those little critters sucking on titties all day, but what I'm saying Strong, is that there's a way to go about it, and a blanket over a babies head to hide it, is not what I call being discreet, you're still there, in front of me, breast feeding your kid while I eat. (yes im using the restaurant situation as an example bt this goes for it in general)

what kind of restaurant are you eating at? 15 pregnant ladies around you at the same time.....??????

actually my sister is breast feeding at the moment and i spent the whole day with her and her family. and, being her 3rd child, i promise you, she has such a routine in feeding the little critter that you would not even realise it, even if she would do it in broad daylight on times-square.
as for the initial question: it is absolutely the choice of the restaurant. for me personally: i, honestly, could not care less...even if there would be the aformentioned 15 ladies around me!

Breastfeeding in public i would say is not a good idea, and should not be allowed (esp at a restuarant!) Most restuarants have changing/waiting areas. Ladies, should NOT breastfeed in public area such as a resturant! Thats my 2 cents!
