Here's an interesting one.
In the UK there's a Christian couple who are foster parents and it looks like they will have to give up custody of their 11 year old child because they will not sign a document saying they are 'pro gay'.
This is a law I don't get at all. I can't believe it's a law, to be honest, but then I read it in the paper so it must be true. Obviously it is designed to protect the rights of gay people, but this is how councils make themselves look stupid. Sad for the kid involved, sad for the foster parents.

That is sad. It's sad when they play politics with kids' lives.

that's absolutely ridiculous! If parents would be prevented from sharing their religion to their child then who will share religion to their children! Besides, that's why they are called parents, and what are parents for?

The argument is that there are no religious children, only children with religious parents.
Which is a crock, actually. My nine year old niece has religious leanings even though, since myself and my brother and my sister (niece's mum) and her partner are atheists, we all tell her we don't think much of the proposition - but we don't particularly go to town on the subject, we just tell her it's up to her what she believes and that we firmly don't believe it. And she does believe in Jesus last time I asked.
The school must have brainwashed her

Just found this:
Quote:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Abolish all faith schools and prohibit the teaching of creationism and other religious mythology in all UK schools.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Make it illegal to indoctrinate or define children by religion before the age of 16.
|
Actual petitions by atheist fundamentalists who want to use force of law to stop parents from sharing religion with their own children.
Absolutely sickening.

Ridiculous! I absolutely agree that you shouldn't teach Creationism in a science lesson, but not teaching religion at all?
Even speaking as a totally committed atheist, if I'd never been taught about the various religions my life would be the poorer for it. A sense of the numinous is fundamental to the human psyche.
I'm loosely opposed to faith schools too, as in, they can be good or they can be bad. But my sixth form college was full to the rafters with nuns, and it wasn't a bad place at all.
