US Armed Forced the Most Powerful
By Budget
1. US - $553 billion
2. UK - $72 billion
3. France - $67 billion
By Fighter Aircraft
1. US - 3200
2. Russia - 2050
3. China - 1400
The US also lead the world in number of aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, nuclear subs and non-nuclear subs.
It's a fact that some Americans are no doubt proud of, but it is for the most part a huge waste of money. Our airbases in Japan, for example, with tens of thousands of staff, are not necessary. The absurdity of the huge waste of money is breathtaking.

You didn't mention Canada...
We have a great fleet of canoes and rowboats. All armed with 18th century muskets.
Total cost: $24.98(CAD!!)...
Useless spending... Isn't that the job of Government?

If the muskets don't work, we can always bore our enemies to death with a concert by Anne Murray or Bryan Adams.
(I would have mentioned using the big guns {Celine Dion} but she's currently on another assignment in Vegas)

Glad to see we finally agree on something in this section. I find it entirely too frustrating the amount of money spent that doesn't need to be spent. Woo for debt

No joke about wasting money.
My initial issue (items such as uniforms, boots, etc. given when you first arrive at basic training) was over $1,300. My currently issued TA-50 (Table of Allowances 50 (Army-issued individual equipment)) is valued around $3,300 and whenever I get deployed it's said that, on average, each soldier is issued nearly $17,000 worth of equipment.

To get the peace you must prepare the war.

If there is one thing I am ok with is huge military spending. Just like the OP said, some of us are really, overly proud of it. I'm one of them

It is not only US who spends enough money for these armed forces... Even smaller countries spend money on them. And it's really a fact that some of them abuse the benefits they get from the government.

There is no question money is wasted, but I'm not sure our military presence is a focal point. What is the cost of NOT having such a presence?

We do not a strong military. No doubt about that. But a lot of that is waste, like the dozens of bases in Japan.

And I'm sure you were just so mad that they gave you all that huh? You would have preferred some busted 1980 AK's right? Nah, you only wanted one gun and one clip right? Maybe a jeep wrangler if you had to trek through enemy territory? Ha, yea, I'm sure you were so upset lol
Tell me if there is something I am missing?

Just so you know, guy, TA-50 and initial issue does not consist of any sort of weaponry or vehicles.
Now, I never complained, a majority of what I received I will need. (Minus the underwear, never wore those. ) I simply stated that it is a waste of money. Think before you speak and avoid making yourself look the fool.
My TA-50 consists of items such as bags, polypro's (thermal underwear), a $600 (around that) sleeping bag system, and miscellanious uniform items such as a Camelback, canteens, ammo pouches, etc.
The Army is overcharged. I'm sure you know what that means, but to make sure it means that they pay more than the real value of an item.
Do you understand now?
EDIT: I forgot to include what the initial issue includes. Uniforms. That's it. ACU's, boots, Class A's and B's, etc.
