Spend now, worry about it later. It's the American way.

at this point of time, I will say spending is the way to prevent a deep bear market from happening. If everybody starts pinching and do not purchase, it will have a cyclical effect on the economy and makes things worse than it already is.

I guess spending will help the economy from plummeting further, but when does this catch up? It seems like a short term fix because the real problem of cash flow is still there. If and when a Democrat takes office, he (or SHE) will look like the bad guy when trying to balance the budget and get our country out of a deep s*it hole of debt. It's nice to get tax refunds and have a lot of government support, but we have to think of the future of our country.

Thats just my 2 cents.

I guess cash flow isn't the real problem, there is a great deal of cash coming in and going out. The budget deficit and growing national debt is getting out of control.

I am not so worried about the absolute amount but the details, how is Bush going to utilize the money.

At this point of time, confidence is at an all time low and if there is oversurplus of products and no demand, a lot of people could be retrenched from the factories and this makes the mortgage defaults worse and everything just spiral downwards.

in my country that would be more than enough to pay for its debt to the world bank. Coz it now shows that each and every person there even an unborn child already has a debt of his own.. so everybody has its own share of responsibility...

Why dont we just have the federal reserve magically print more money. Isnt it what they are good at? , and everyone is wondering why the dollar is losing its value?

What is even scarier is the fact that much of the world has been relying on the greenback as a solid currency. Well, now look what we've got today. It's troubling to see how an elite group of supermen sit in a marble mansion deciding the fate of our currency, and in turn our country. OK, I stole this from a George Carlin bit, but everything he says is so true. Please check it out if you get the chance. http://youtube.com/watch?v=fWeAgvNAgiY

That was a good one though.

Pretty sad that the truth has to come from a comedian.

At the end of the day, it's all numbers on a computer screen - if we all went to the bank and tried to withdraw all our cash, I think there'd be trouble. Why not wipe out all the debt by adding a few 0's to everyones bank accounts - surely that would stop the credit crisis?

My partner went on a debt management plan (see here for those who don't know what one is) and if something doesn't happen soon, I'm going to have to go down a similar route. Here's hoping...
