Sean Connery is an 'old-school' guy but I would never stoop that low as to hit a woman.

Even if she swings for me, I would just block and walk away... Though sadly, it does seem to go on a lot.

It's almost humorous how matter of fact he is about it.

I've never personally laid an angry hand on a lady and can't imagine a situation that would warrant it. Even if they become violent they're easily enough restrained without having to hurt them. I see the stories of men that do it and have to wonder what satisfaction you get from beating someone that can't realistically defend themselves without a gun. It's pathetic IMO. No man could do it and call himself a gentleman.

You have to remember his age, times change. When he was growing up it was acceptable behaviour for the man of the house to behave that way with his wife and children. Coming from a family background where such things happened and seeing the effects at first hand, I would not advise such behaviour. It is no right, it is an abuse.

Perhaps it is comments like that which have stood in the way of him receiving a Knighthood. But at least he had the courage to speak to his conviction, unlike many mealy-mouthed, media obsessed celebrities today.

For what its worth, my estimation of him as a real man is diminished, as an actor, its still the same.

And South....your position basically says you won't hit a woman because she's pathetically weak. Does that mean if the woman wasn't "weaker" than you and couldn't be restrained so easily it would be ok? Believe it or not, there are women out there who could pin you down in 2 seconds flat, bad boy.

I don't know. In America, it certainly is. But in America you can tell your spouse to go to hell, to drop dead, etc, and that is perfectly acceptable. It's in fact acceptable for a married man to get a blow job from his young assistant at work, but if he goes home and slaps his wife, you better believe he's going to rot in hell.

Ask me, and I'd say I'd rather have my wife slap me than engage in extramarital affairs.

I don't hit women. I think if I really felt passionate about one, I might hit her. I see men lose control because they are seriously in love with their spouses. They even kill their wives when those wives cheat. And women do the same. But it's because of passion. So I'm somewhat lucky to have not found that kind of passion, at least since 1987.

My ex slapped, punched and otherwise expressed herself physically with me. Nothing that I really care about. It was just her way of expressing her frustration with me. Some women like to make a big deal out of slapping. Slapping, for the most part, isn't a big deal. But women cling to it in hopes of some form of entitlement. "Men slap women so we are therefore entitled to everything and anything we want."

Men only hit the women (in the way Connery explained) when they don't think they will be seriously hurt back. That is why the women who do not get hit are the ones that the men know may bash their head in with a bat or stab them in the chest when they sleep should you dare to hit them. Or maybe the man knows tjat the woman has brothers that will maim him for life if they find out. It's all part of the "don't be an easy victim thing." Similarly, women who have conceal and carry permits for firearms and work late at night get raped, attacked, and killed A LOT less then those who don't.

I agree with you. I think slapping is minor, but I also believe it is degrading. Would I rather get slapped than engage in extramarital affairs? You bet...

I have never slapped a woman... Sure wish I did at times. But no matter how you slap, minor or not, it is still at some level very degrading....
