The general Democrat base isn't smart enough to be trusted with decisions this important. The Dem party know this, that's why super delegates exist. Both Hillary and Obama have been damaged so badly that I don't see how either could stand up through a general election.
Dems at this point have the choice of:
Hillary = The new tapes are almost a comedy of how she lies time and time again in public not just to get out of trouble, but for petty reasons too (Sniper fire that didn't happen, Named after Sir Hillary, Cattle futures, on and on). She's an extremely unlikeable character by most peoples measure and America at large now knows her as a chronic liar who can't be trusted to tell you anything other than what she thinks you wan to hear with no regard for truth.
Obama = Now accepted by most of America (extreme left excluded) as an angry racist who makes public speeches on togetherness and harmony, yet surrounds himself in his personal life with bitter separatists. His eloquent written speeches are now being overshadowed by him stammering his way through interviews looking frustrated and confused while clumsily tap dancing around questions without answering. He's been frontline on the national scene for a very short period of time and is already unelectable in a general election...and he hasn't even had to face the weather underground questions yet, but he will before November.
There's talk now of the Democratic party just taking it out of the voters hands and possibly putting Gore on the front of the ticket. That would be the Democrats best chance at a win.
Republicans have had the white house for eight years. Dems should have had this locked up in a cakewalk this year...and their voters narrow themselves down to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. No wonder the party puts in idiot proof fail safes.
