... Rand Abdel-Qader, 17, murdered because of her infatuation with a British solider in Basra, southern Iraq, her father is defiant. Sitting in the front garden of his well-kept home in the city's Al-Fursi district, he remains a free man, despite having stamped on, suffocated and then stabbed his student daughter to death.
Abdel-Qader, 46, a government employee, was initially arrested but released after two hours. Astonishingly, he said, police congratulated him on what he had done. 'They are men and know what honour is,' he said.
...
Though her horrified mother, Leila Hussein, called Rand's two brothers, Hassan, 23, and Haydar, 21, to restrain Abdel-Qader as he choked her with his foot on her throat, they joined in. Her shrouded corpse was then tossed into a makeshift grave without ceremony as her uncles spat on it in disgust. 'Death was the least she deserved,' said Abdel-Qader. 'I don't regret it. I had the support of all my friends who are fathers, like me, and know what she did was unacceptable to any Muslim that honours his religion,' he said.
...
I have only two boys from now on. That girl was a mistake in my life. I know God is blessing me for what I did,' he said, his voice swelling with pride. 'My sons are by my side, and they were men enough to help me finish the life of someone who just brought shame to ours.'
Is he really an honourable man!?! I hope his God catches up with him real soon.

it's more common than you think. and what's worse, there are several places in the world where murderers like these aren't really prosecuted, or they get off with a slap on the wrist, because just like in this article, it's accepted in the culture.
I could have done without reading about this as well.
What ever happened to compassion and love? Why are these zealots always getting the limelight when it comes to their religion. This type of thing only perpetuates the problems.

Great to see these people worshiping what they feel is a loving and forgiving God...
No matter what faith one follows, the moment man decides that it is acceptable to take life they feel their God has created, then they are putting themselves on the same level as their God and making his decisions for him.
These people can not read a persons heart or mind and yet they feel they can decide who lives and who dies.
The word WRONG is not a powerful enough word for such actions
Did you think the story couldn't get worst, real life disappoints on a grand scale! The father may not have done it, but his soul, if he has one, is covered in blood.
Leila Hussein lived her last few weeks in terror. Moving constantly from safe house to safe house, she dared to stay no longer than four days at each. It was the price she was forced to pay after denouncing and divorcing her husband - the man she witnessed suffocate, stamp on, then stab their young daughter Rand in a brutal 'honour' killing for which he has shown no remorse.
Though she feared reprisals for speaking out, she really believed that she would soon be safe. Arrangements were well under way to smuggle her to the Jordanian capital, Amman. In fact, she was on her way to meet the person who would help her escape when a car drew up alongside her and two other women who were walking her to a taxi. Five bullets were fired: three of them hit Leila, 41. She died in hospital after futile attempts to save her.
Its amazing that these people or any human being for that matter can perform such a despicable act and not even have any remorse for it? How can someones humanity be turned off like this?
I am too am disgusted to read anymore. I have no respect for such acts as this and I don`t care what laws there are. In my youth, these kind of acts would lead me to trouble. I would see a guy beating on his girlfriend and I would tell the guy to fight me instead since I was more of his equal.
Does that make him a man, cause he killed his daughter? In my book, he`s a coward and anyone who supported him is a coward as well.
It does not take much to beat or kill someone who is weaker than you. I always went after the bullys. One time got my A** handed to me though! LOL
I though become confused by something at this point John. As with individualism, your social contract
Quote:
"In order to guarantee our mutual freedom, I pledge to refrain from impeding your freedom in due consideration of your pledge to do the same. Furthermore, I also pledge to defend your freedom from impingement in consideration for your pledge to do the same. You are free to practice your morality insofar as it doesn't impinge upon my freedom; I, likewise, am free to practice my morality as long as it doesn't impede your freedoms. Morality shall play no part in this contract and morality is explicitly rejected as a basis of law making".
That then allows such atrocities to exist and no means in which to get rid of them?
While at the core of our being or philosophies and morals every bit tells us how wrong that is.
At the same time everything that he is as a person everything that the daughter too may have been we don't know is the morality that made it acceptable to them for this to have been done.

well they were raised that way. we all have different culture but I too think that was really disgusting. I like to join their community and strangle that guy, give him a little honor killing my self.(though I know I ain't that crazy to do it like them)
