It's extremely absurd. They admit that forcing a child to participate in making it is a crime, but buying and selling and possessing child porn should be protected as "free speech"? Hello? A child cannot legally consent to it. So buying and selling and possessing just furthers the crime.

The thing is by legalizing anything to do with child porn, just gives the abusers more of an incentive to commit the crime. Wish this stupid "Union" would see sense.

The ACLU when I first thought of what it was years ago seemed like such a good idea. An organization that's soul purpose was to protect the rights of the common citizen. At least that is what first came to my mind when I first heard the words American Civil Liberties Union. What better than a group that battles against such things as the seat belt law, green river ordinances in towns and counties that interfere with a persons ability to provide for themselves or their families, local governments banning the wearing of lipstick in public, or a nationally televised show because they think it's inappropriate and shouldn't be on the air. There should be a group that is equipped with funding and volunteer lawyers to take care of all these things.....but the ACLU has become nothing more than a sounding house for pushing an individuals desire upon the majority, giving people reason and cause to become and remain criminals as the treatment and defense they get is far better than what they had before, and to interfere with national security to make sure that any and all foreign combatants(those wanting to do us and our way of life harm) the same rights and privileges, actually more, than those of the born and raised citizen.

Why hasn't there been an organization formed that actually does the things that the ACLU should be doing?

The mind boggles! How can anyone think buying and selling pics of kiddie-fiddling is remotely acceptable? There are some absolute nutjobs on this planet. Would a series of very hard slaps snap them out of it? They'd probably enjoy it, they're that topsy-turvy.

Uh, again I feel like you guys are missing the point. How could such an organization exist with these beliefs whether they get away with it or not? Say they don't ever succeed (which I pray every day that they don't) but keep trying, does that make it ok and they shouldn't be held responsible?

If you take away the ability for one to speak their thoughts, desires, and dreams, aren't you taking away everything that you are thinking freedom should be? I mean yes we don't agree with what the ACLU is doing, and child porn is beyond sick, but put into a broader perspective that the whole organization should be penalized and disbanded because they have extreme alternate views isn't the answer either. We do need a force on the opposite side fighting in the other direction and unfortunately that is a rarity it seems. And a lot of the cases they grab hold of should never make it to court but apparently they figure a way to give it legal merit to get it heard, and hopefully lose.

Yes, I think that they should be disbanded or punished heavily as an organization because of their views. You answer your own question on how they bring things like this to court, because they hide behind the other nonsense they stand for that is easier to agree with so that they can try and sneak this in.

It's despicable and the heads of the organization know what they are doing.

I know, but you can't take away the rights to speak or act just because they hold views you don't agree with I'm afraid. Just think, they probably have the same opinion you have of them about you, should they have the right to penalize or quiet you? Not defending them by any means I find them very contemptable, but it's up to the system to fend off such things and keep it in check while allowing the balance.
