I got a Camera today!!

I got a camera today. I went to Bestbuy and compared everything they had, ask a bunch of sales people and I found the perfect camera there.

Canon Powershot SD700 IS - Digital ELPH

Some Specs

I also got a carrying case, 2GB Memory Card, and an extra battery.

The quality is amazing.

for how much?

DaveyBoy 08-07-2006 01:53 PM

This is an excellent choice mate, one of the top-end ultra-compacts you have there. What it doesn't have in megapixels it makes up for in quality.

Like i said yesterday you can't really go wrong with a Canon, Sony or Panasonic these days.

Thanks DaveyBoy.

Does it matter? It wasn't cheap, but I am definitely going to get what I paid for out of it.

DaveyBoy 08-07-2006 02:01 PM

I think he was just asking out of interest

Yeah, i paid £280 for my Cybershot N1, £30 for the memory stick and it's been the best investment i've made so far i reckon. After being used to an average 3.2mp cam before, it blew me away.

Been using online printing services to get prints up to 16 x 21 inches lol, awesome.

You should sign up to Flickr if you haven't already, cool way of getting your pics online and for people to see.

I went for the best memory card they had, I think it holds up to 800 pictures.

The camera was on sale for $474.00.

BluePoint 08-07-2006 02:07 PM

There were so many great cameras there, I think I was looking for well over an hour.

I tested everything they had plus asked a lot of questions.

DaveyBoy 08-07-2006 02:09 PM

Yeah i have a 2gb memory stick, got it from ebay for £30 (in some shops they are over £100!) and it holds 500 pics @ 8mp which is of course more than enough.

What batteries does that cam take? A pack? If so, I definitely recommend carrying a spare battery pack with you when you're out and about.

It's a small battery, rechargable. I made sure to get an extra. The girl salesperson who was my age told me it lasts for about 100+ pictures. She also showed me a case that would fit the camera + an extra battery.

She hooked me up and gave me some discounts, I think she liked me ;)

gaz545 08-07-2006 02:12 PM

yeah it was mearly a question out of intrest, the 2GB memory cards are a rip off in the UK, like you said over £100 on the high street, i have a S9500 9.2mp Camera and i just love taking photos, i use it nearly every day, and got an xd and compact flash picture card off the net both 1GB cheaper than a single 1GB card. the good thing about my camera is that it holds both cards and you can switch between the two without turning it off.

DaveyBoy 08-07-2006 02:14 PM

Nice one ;)

The battery should last way over 100 shots, i think mine is something like 300 shots (of course that is exagerrated as it's with specific circumstances...) but it's something like 150 minutes continuous with the LCD on the whole time, which is decent. I'd imagine that yours is similar.

Yeah, they are pretty similiar in size and battery life.

I can't wait to take some pictures with it, I'm charging the battery right now.

The charger comes as a travel charger, so the charger itself plugs into the wall for a quick charge if needed. No wires, etc.

BluePoint 08-07-2006 03:06 PM

This 2 hour 5 minute charge is the longest of my life. I cannot wait to start taking pictures :)

gaz545 08-07-2006 03:37 PM

oh my god thats short, my battrys' take 8 hours minimum to charge :(

BluePoint 08-07-2006 03:43 PM

Just finished. Now I need to figure out all the modes...

Canon makes great digital cameras, good choice!

Ferre 08-07-2006 05:42 PM

Indeed a good choice. Reminds me of my first camera, a Canon FT QL.

This was before digital cameras existed, I'm THAT old.
