Company growing pains...brutal
 
I'm going through a lot of growing pains as my company is expanding.

Most pressing seems to be behavior issues with employees...

How do you address behavior modification?

How many chances do you give them?

Please respond with your business stats as well as your suggestions...

I am a freelance writer and run my own online dropshipping store. So I don't know if I am the ideal person to suggest you but many times the behavior concerns can be managed. Is it because of a bad manager or the employee is disinterested with the profile? You need to get to the route cause of the problem and then take the right decision to correct your situation.

If the employee is at fault from all angles, you know what to do better.

Unless you describe the "behaviour issues", and how many employees you are referring to (both the good ones and the bad ones), no one can give you a proper response.

Employees should be inducted to your business correctly.

Spell out, verbally and in writing which they sign to, the behaviour you expect.

Spell out, verbally and in writing which they sign to, the consequences of poor behaviour.

One verbal warning, one written warning, then dismissal.

I have always found that having distinctly defined boundaries is the best way of ensuring they are kept to.

Also spell out, in similar ways, the benefits (bonus perhaps) of behaviour over and above what you expect.

Behavior problems are generally a result of faulty hiring or onboarding. Since you've missed both these opportunities to set the work culture, setup weekly meetings to 'put processes in place' whereby you set the rules & expectations for your team. You might need to have these weekly meetings for a month or so to set the right habits.

What do you mean by "behavior issues"?

It's possible that these are behaviors that worked well for your business when your company was smaller that now poses as a liability.

It can also be behaviors that only manifested now that people are adjusting to an ever changing power structure.

It could also be bad management.

I think it would be best what these issues (and where these behaviors are coming from) so they can be addressed accordingly.

Yes, some of it can be fixed with proper onboarding. In some cases, you may need to put your foot down a create an organizational structure that people can follow. Or it could be a case of moving people around (promotion or lateral movement) so their skills and behaviors would better suit their job.

The absute key here is communication. Communicating to the employee where there behavior is leading and where they stand. It's human nature to push boundaries and rules. But if you don't communicate with an employee that their behavior is something that needs to be changed and specifically tell them the exact consequences they are heading towards, your doing both them and yourself a disservice. If people don't know what consequences they are heading for they won't change their behavior and you will have a lot of turn over and then develop a bad reputation. Communicating impending consequences is the basis of respect.
