I confess to not reading every word of the article but it appears to fail to mention that often choosing the head and legs separately may be the better option for the serious user.

I am a pro photographer, i onced bought a Velbon Sherpa 200R it lasted me over 8 years and i had it travelling by plane cargo etc. It's on of the best value for money i had so far accross my gear. I bought exactly the same one again since then brand new there's a lot you can do with it.

I own a Manfrotto 504HD Tripod Kit with 504HD Video Head and 546GB Tripod. It's really cool and serves the purpose.
