How Much of Google’s Search Traffic is Left for Anyone But Themselves?

Interesting post on Rand Fishkin's Spark Toro blog with stats from a third party on how much organic traffic Google sends to sites other than their own.
Quote:

...for every click on a paid result in Google, there are 11.6 clicks to organic results. SEO is far from dead...
How Much of Google’s Search Traffic is Left for Anyone But Themselves?

After reading the article, what do you think of Rand's analogy?

Nice info,

But What do you think about the new favicon implementation on mobile search results?

aren't they trying to match the ad campaign favicon (Ad) with the organic results to get high CTR on their campaign?

I think Google is so smart. People think that Google has introduced it to promote organic results and their brand. But I think the main motive is pretty much obvious. They are stealing organic CTR.

So if I read that pie chart correctly, :) Google only takes 58.44% of the traffic to serve their purposes (serving ads) for their real business.

I'll ask a question. Should they show a portion of a page which answers a simple question thereby preventing a click to the page in question? A page where the publishers might earn a few pennies?

Admittedly I as a consumer sometimes like that but is right?

It varies greatly between industry and intent. For example, try searching hotels, you'll have to scroll two whole page fulls on a desktop before seeing standard results. Try searching the phone number of your internet provider or phone carrier, you may find all but the official/approved sites are thrown into supplemental results.
