How many keywords?

Hi guys,

I am very new to SEO. I created a website (online community) and have now to work on SEO.

How many keywords shall I choose? I've chosen 60 now, but something tells me they are far too many.

Also, do you think it is better to choose "more click/less competition" keyword for faster results?

Thanks guys,
Ferg

Spend some time choosing these keyword. You should probably focus on just a couple of them (2-5). BTW the keyword meta tag is pretty much useless SEO wise, Its all abou the content and the backlinks

ya its a good way if you choose more click/less competition keywords but also you should choose some very popular keywords and optimize it by proper SEM activities..

Hi)
at first 7-10 keywords is totally enough! you dont need more, so aftef creating the sire you must start promoting it, use different seo tools, start with social bookmarking and forum posting.

More click and less competition keywords are best. At the begging you can focus up to 10 10 keywords. With the targeted keywords try to promote your site with various SEO techniques. The keyword you are choosing should be search-able term by the web surfers and must be popular also.

You can have 20 to 23 keywords in the keyword meta tags

But....Google does not read meta keywords.....

Now what?

I think you should choose 3-5 keywords for the beginning. 60 are too many to start with.

AmyH 01-31-2011 03:35 PM

I would go with 5 keywords max for now, later on you can add more but for now focus on 5 keywords to get you started.

The standard is 5 keywords and beyond it is not normal.

Not only Google, but most major SE don't read meta keywords anymore and haven't for quite some time.

You can target many keywords as possible, as long as you can optimize them all. If you have many targeted keywords, and rank them all on top, you will have greater volume of traffic in every related searches.

Like what other suggested, you can have 5 targeted keywords first, the most relevant keywords. After they rank well, then you can add more...

Best advice for you is;
- Break the 60 Keywords you have down into segments
- Im sure you have multiple sub-pages so use CERTAIN keywords that reflect the PAGE services/products your offering.

If you can break them down in to 6 keywords on 10 pages, or 10 keywords on 6 pages ect you'll get better results.

PS: whatever keywords you have left over for each page, put them on the footer, that way the GoogleBots can still crawl the keywords in reference to your site and still send you any related traffic you may miss if otherwise you didnt have them listed.

Cheers~

SIXTY KEYWORDS!!! That is too much. I have my keywords linked around my domain name and I target variations of them in searched for phrases. It would take forever to get good SERPS on all 60 keywords. Good luck though.

yes! google does not read meta keywords, it reads only meta description and title, so we have to put main keyword in the title and meta description also..

sritech 02-05-2011 01:04 AM

Hi,

How many pages your website has.

"Also, do you think it is better to choose "more click/less competition" keyword for faster results? "

yes it's better to go with this.

AJKpeter 02-07-2011 08:24 AM

you can pick as many keywords as you want, as I know its recommended to use 10-20 KW per site

TheBrainchild 02-07-2011 08:08 PM

Hello Ferg,

Just to confirm, you've chosen 60 keywords for which area of the website? As meta keywords, 60 keywords to target, etc.

I suggest 7-9 keywords in the meta title, around 35 in the meta description, and 15 in the meta keywords. Not sure if this is what you're referring to. :)

Well i have same questions as discussed that if you have more keywords than there should be increase a chance to get a traffic by different keywords is it true?
