A demo is likely to have limitations.

Quite a number of hosts will offer a 30 days money back guarantee or more on reseller accounts, so you have plenty of time to test it out and see if you're ready for the task (or can become ready in a decent amount of time).

When you get to the reseller level another layer is added. It is called WebHostManager WHM and I am fairly sure you can take it for a test drive at the cPanel demo site. Just keep in mind that everything you see there may not be included in your reseller account. Most will be.

Most sellers of reseller accounts do the dirty behind the scenes stuff when your account is created. You will have to create plans defining what comes with each hosting plan. Not really too big of a deal.

I or others will be here to try and answer questions if you need help.

Off the top of my head and without a lot of thought, If you need provide a domain name for the account then the hard stuff has been done. Setting up the primary domain name is something you usually have to do on a VPS but not on a reseller account most places. This involves names servers, IPs and so on.

I made the jump from cPanel to WHM with only a few bumps almost 10 years ago. There will be error messages to guide you if you try to add a domain and have not taken the proper steps before that.

I suggest you go for it with a company that offers a limited time money back.

you should buy the reseller account first then have the cpanel and then manage the reseller account, you should have 30 days to checkout from the reseller account, so i think you have plenty of time to management.
or try the http://www.cpanel.net/products/cpanelwhm/try-demo.html for the cpanel reference.
