I use hostgator and my internet usage is spread thru the day and night and I have yet to see a downtime in my sites.
As others commented, their chat support is great, but if you have a more radical problem you need to use e-mail and the ticketing system.
Overall my experience with them has been great.

Noooooo not webfusion!! I drop that amateur racket like a ton of bricks - support - what's that? Hosting - ha let's laugh.
Sorry to hijack the thread but I felt I had to rant!
I've heard a mixture of good and bad things about hostgator.com when I did some research on hosting at the end of last year. The bad things are usually support related.

I know this is my first Post here..but I have used HostGator for the last 2 months with no problem...untill last week.. When I moved to there Semi-dedicated Server..My uptime since then has been about 40%
on monday it went down 2 times for over an Hour each time..not to mention that in the transfer to the new server, they lost over 24 Hours worth of Data
It went down yesterday at 5:30PM CST as of 9:30AM CST the next day it still isn't up??
As long as you have a small site that doesn't require much ban-width Hostgator is fine..but as of right now I'm not happy at all with there service

I have used HG for about a year now and they are an average web host.
Their online support is useless most of the time. I have questions a few times a week and almost every single time I log into live chat, they tell me to email them instead because they're clueless.
So I dislike their live chat, it doesn't help with most things.
They do install all Perl modules you ask them to, which is great. And they don't like PHP all that much, which I find very nice in a web host.
Pricing is a little on the expensive side but the servers they are on are pretty good.
I'd give them about a 8.5/10.

Don't worry DarrenC, I did drop them like a hot stone and went to hostgator
One thing about hostgator is that after they moved my site over, none of the cgi worked and I asked if they could quickly sort it as my site isn't funtioning properly and they said 'No, it's my problem' - Now thats what I call service with a smile

Yeah, alot of hosting companies are like that with regard to CGI.
I had loads of hassle with Webfusion, and I am still been billed for 2 accounts, that I've asked to be closed last year, and despite cancelling the direct debits they keep taking the money out of my account.

yeah webfusion are a bit pants, I have one shared hosting and one vps account with them, both of them are crud.
PHP scripts take an age to execute and support is non-existent. One of my sites was down for a week!

I have a couple of re-seller packages with hostgator and they've been great. An irritating problem recently is that I've been losing secure https: http://www.domain.com:2083 access to one of their servers. Hostgator re-boot then secure access returns only to come down again.

I have used hosgator for the past year and have been satisfied overall with their performance both in terms of customer service response and uptime.
Price wise I think they are pretty reasonable.

I dont find Hostgator prices very competitive, maybe its just me though being used to paying alot less for more space/bandwidth.

I've been with Hostgator for I guess over a year now and the uptime is really good. Downtime is seldom and is quickly resolved.
As for support, I've always been able to get immediate help both by phone and through live chat. Actually helpful help, not just a note reader. Every problem I've had has been resolved in under 5 minutes.
