It's more than just technical phone support. It's the Tier 2 guys and upper level admins as well. Also in consideration would be the crowed servers, older versions of software, hardware - something got to give. I've talked to a few people in the business and the days of free or cheap hosting may be numbered.

A reseller hosting is good to start with. From my own experience, most people use it if they want to run hosting as their secondary business and don't want to invest big amount in the server and other stuff. If you are web development firm, a reseller account is good for you to host your own customer's website. If you plan properly, it would certainly be profitable.

I too was looking into host reselling.

If I started out with 25 available spaces, just to test the waters, what would it involve? Would I be the person to provide customer support etc? What's the typical profit margin and net income that can come of it?

Yes, I was thinking of this as a "fire and forget" business, with space for about 20 sites, and offering little to no costumer support... (I don't think I would be able nor do I want to) I just open a website to sell these spaces, and after they are full, I close applications for new accounts. Do you think that would work?
