Hosting Reseller - Is it Worth it?
Hey guys, has anyone had any experience in reselling hosting? What kind of income is achievable and is it worth it?

Hey Malcolm,
I think if you are a designer, it makes sense to offer your clients web hosting as a way to provide them with end-to-end web service. I started out as a web designer, tailoring my service to web hosting industry. Then I started to branch out where I'd do designs for photographers, schools, churches, etc. This is where my knowledge about web hosting came in handy because I was able to upsell web hosting along with my design service.
As for your second question, you'd be surprised how many profitable hosts there are now now that started out as a reseller. It's certainly not an easy get-rich-overnight type of business because of how crowded the market is.

The hosting niche is highly saturated. I've only seen it bring in substantial income with Webmasters having sites based on website building, etc. It really has to be targeted. For this kind of promoting I'd recommend building an email list that's opting in to a site providing useful information on building a web presence. Hope that helps.

Not long ago I came across a useful article http://webhostingw.com/best-reseller-hosts regarding reseller hosting providers and that review really helped me.
I think that you can also make your choice after reviewing the information provided.

You can start with a simple reseller in the beginning to check it first ,and you should know that there's no the best web hosting company but there's the company which matches your needs . Also, Try to find the quality before checking the prices .

We would say if you create websites for others as for living, then reselling hosting can bring you good money and people can trust your business even more. Otherwise, it will be a lot of hard work that won't really pay you for the effort you have put.

Yes, it is worth on reselling hosting, especially if your budget is limited and you need to host many visitors with low costs.

Because you no need to think about server management , maintenance, Security etc.etc.. your provider will do all this for you.

That's true but if you start your own reseller business, you need to know about all of this stuff.
I work in the IT field and mostly install hardware in servers with little software installing and configuring but know how important it is to keep a server running 24 hours a day with little to no problem's.
Our Admin crew at work is always upgrading and tweaking things on our company server's 24 hours a day.

We are resellers of a sort too, but it's more about a value-added service to add to our Design and SEO. We know our support is pretty amazing, which is a treat amongst hosting plans - that, and we know what our servers can do, which is also good for the client. Add ASP? No problem. Install a chat feature? No problem.
For us we make some revenue on it, but it's more a value add-on for our other services.

Reseller Hosting often offers a complete-money saving solution. Often they will come with free domains and free billing software; to that end, I would highly suggest someone wishing to start a host, to start with a reseller package. Later, you could more to a VPS or Dedicated Server.
It's important to choose the right host, you can pretty much guarantee a poor quality host if they are seriously under selling themselves, though you can't guarantee quality through a higher price.
I hope this helps.

What most people don't know about the hosting business, is that the cost of support is probably the highest expense.
As you grow in clients, you have to hire more staff to answer simple questions like email setup and passwords resets, and such.
For hosting to make sense as a business, you have to be ready to work with thousands of clients. Less than that is not really worth it.
