We all acknowledge that domain age is quite important in the eyes of big G.
Can someone shed some light on whether or not the age of the domain changes hands when the registrant changes?
Example:
CNN.com is ~15 years old.
If I were to buy it, would the 15 years remain or would it reset to 0 in the eyes of the search engines?
Edit: Let me shed some light on my specific situation.
I have a decently well established site with an age of 12 years. It is PR6 and has a domain name that is completely unrelated to my target keywords. I have the possible opportunity to switch to a domain name that is my target keyword. it is 8 years old with
PR of 2. It has never been developed and has always had one of those registrar generic pages...it does not show up in the first several pages for the keyword that is reflected in its name.
Would it be wise of me to transfer my site to this domain and redirect my current one or should I just hang out?
