100 link "rule" - does nofollow matter?

So there's an unofficial "rule" that the engines don't follow links on a page after the first 100 or so they find.

Not sure how real it is, but for the sake of this conversation, let's assume it's real.

The question is:

If you have 175 links on a page, and you nofollow the first 125, for example, does the crawler skip them and follow your other 50 links as if they were the ONLY 50 links on the page (outbound, of course)?

Mostly a theory question, but one I found intriguing and didn't have an immediate answer for.

Please discuss.

If it has a "nofollow" attribute, then by all means, it will be ignored by Google. Yahoo otherwise counts and acknowledge nofollow links.

nofollow links on your page will obviously be skipped by Google bots...that's how simple it is.

i wouldn't say nofollow is skipped. i just think here is no link juice passed for Page Rank purposes. and if you site uses nofollow, your site doesn't get its link juice siphoned away by all those links. i do think the link and anchor text does count in terms of seo. just my theory.

Of course it will skip, you've answer your question already. It's a no follow link so on that word, you can assume that spiders don't crawl the link that is a no follow link.

I agree.. Google will not skipped the nofollow links it's just that it has no link juice on it.

but i think google will not skip the nofollow link. maybe the main effect it doesn't have link juice.

Hi,

There is no rule that first 100 no-follow link count as a follow link, every single no-follow link count as a no-follow link, and other thing is that no-follow link only demerit for PR Value of the site. Pr value is affected by this, but link will count as a link
