Tracking Links

What's the best way to track each and every link (and reference) that occurs to your domain on a daily basis.

I use google alerts (link:www.domain.com & link:http://www.domain.com), but it doesn't seem to track links from StumbleUpon as well as a variety of other sites.

that command definitely won't show up all incoming links for your site, not with Google. Well if you added your site to Google Webmaster Tools, you can use that to monitor and view your incoming links.

I export my backlinks from google webmaster tools and yahoo site explorer regularly. A difference will tell you new links added to your website.

I don't know if there is an 'automated' way to do this

It would be nice to have a way to track links to not just your own site, but other sites of interest preferably as they happen real time.

I agree with jiten. This is the closest you can have in tracking most inbound links.

You could also check where your visitors came from.
If a link doesn't show up in that list, you know it was a useless link.

maybe you should try that link:www.domain.com at yahoo.com, because yahoo give results most, and they can filter out links from the domain.

....lol

I could give a crap about the PR myth. I track incoming links for other reasons.

I want to know who's linking to sites and why. I check the logs daily and see where my traffic is coming from, if I get traffic from a site I want to know why.

I also want to see who's stealing images (hey free advertising (just change the image to a ad.....lol) - I could put a big ad image here (they linked to an image from the site - http://blogs.ebay.com/beepa60126/archive/2007/10 - or here - http://www.sodahead.com/question/896...vegas-forever/ but I just removed them (renamed images). Not a day goes by I don't get free advertising somewhere.....lol

Also I want to see who is spamming using my images in an email (Dirty tricks department) you can get penalized if they spam with your images in an email. Want to kill off the competition - I should write a dirty tricks SEO book....lol

So everyday I check my logs see what my referring urls are

There is not really any way to track each specific link. You can use Yahoo Site explorer to track links though if you'd like.

I'd really love a compiled program that really allows me to 'track' all information easily and effectively for all of my websites. I currently track via Excel but that takes WAY to much time for something that could easily be programmed and set up. I will eventually get something like this designed for my needs but would love if someone could suggest such a tool. One that keeps track of backlinks, cache dates, PR, etc so that I can figure out what's working and what's not easier and more efficiently.
