Makes sense that they would do that, since directory links are very, very rarely natural.

I believe it still has value. Actually, I am building links for a new site that has no backlinks on MSN. After 2 days of submitting it to Directories. Bang! 2 backlinks from MSN coming from a Directory...

It is one way to generate IBLs, thought it is possible for Google to limit DIRs in terms of IBLs for them to control the process.

According to the new policy of Google the bidding directories will be removed from the database of Google search engine.

well, to be removed or not, those Directory sites will still exist and some of them can still help us. I still post to niche directories that has some nice PR. but not as much as before.

you cant say its permanent if the link will stay only for days even if its "many days".
actually there are no permanent links when you submit it to a directory. all directory submission sites will only be around in years even decades. and thats about it.

Hi,
They did it long time ago, less value for such directories.
They now prefer pure content and quality backlinks, As all ways

I don't think search engines would not count directory links. For me, they are very useful, especially for a new domain. Although there are bunch of crap directories, there are still high pr directories that are very useful to improve SERP.

submitting to directories does have its benefits. my question is do paid directories really do their part on making lots of traffic for your site? or is it better to just submit on free directories if the result is the same?
