Domain Purchasing - 1 yr or 5 yr

I would like some feedback on if purchasing a domain for a longer period of time is beneficial to it's page rank?

What kind of time period are we talking about, that will actually make a difference?

Hi,

page rank and domain age have nothing to do together. Page rank is determined by your incoming links.
You could buy your domain name for 10 years and not have any incoming links, your page rank would still be 0.

Don't worry about that. Just buy the domain according to your needs.

You can buy a domain from 1998, but if it hasn't had any history with Google then it won't do you no good. Google looks at the overall history of a domain such as how long it's been indexed; how long the links have been pointing to it; has it had any penalties; and etc.

Don't let people sell you domains based solely on the age unless it's already ranking and has had links pointing to it for awhile. Buy domains for branding purposes instead that's your best bet.

That's correct but I think the OP is looking into buying a new domain and is wondering if he should buy it for 1 years, 5 years, 10 years etc...

What you said is good info so it can't hurt some people to read it

Sorry, I just don't see what the point of doing that is. Unless Google does a 'whois' lookup on the name registration (which I seriously doubt they do), how would they know (and why would they care) whether the domain name was paid up for the next 1 year, 10 years, or 100? Just because you've paid ahead for a name for x years doesn't necessarily mean that you'll keep the site up for that period.

The only little possible theoretical advantage to do so is that Google will think your domain is more relevant if it doesn't expire soon.

Again, I doubt that they access this information

Age is factor for PR... if u purchased an aged domain its OK. But for new 1 yr ot 5 yr there is no difference. For domain now buyin for 5 yrs is better bcz can save money and can see some offer for 2 #

some directories offer years of listing and some offers only months. some are free and some are paid directories. any directories you pick leads to traffic but only few will give your site a permanent link.
