What is the acceptable bounce rate?

They said the Lower bounce rate indicates your visitors are linking your site. Is there any specific numbers or What is the acceptable bounce rate really?

worry about your conversion rate - bounce rate is almost useless unless it's your conversion page.

I don't completely agree with that.
Bounce rate is not the main stat to look at, far from that. However, it does indicate if a page has a "problem". If you see that your overall bounce rate and each page's bounce rate us about the same (let's say 40%) but one page has a bounce rate of 90%, you know you are targeting the wrong keywords for that page or you may be targeting the right keyword but this page has either a technical problem (images don't load etc..) or a problem with the content (lots of spelling mistakes?)

You can't give an acceptable bounce rate because it will vary depending on your target. The more detailed your niche is, the lower your bounce rate should be. If you target lots of people with general products, your bounce might be in the higher end.

But as Pink Fluffy Bunny mentioned, the most important stat to look at is the conversation rate. A low bounce rate, high rankings, loads of visitors means nothing if you don't have them fill a form, download your template/widget or buy your product/services etc...

EDIT:

If you want to know what some people's bounce rate are, check this thread

Lower the bounce rate indicates that the user is not hitting the Back button on the browser.
this means that they like your content and are not dejected by it,because if they were in any way and didnt find it relevent and useful they would have used the Back button on the browser and go to the previous page which they were visiting.

Lower the bounce rate the better it is.

Bounce rate is calculated by the pageviews and the time visitor stay in the site. Some site have 10 vistor if they stay for long time the bounce rate reduced to <25. Any how less tha 20% is always better

20 - 25% But lower bounce rate doesn't mean it is good for your site. It depends on the niche of a site. Anyway, I focus to traffic that gives good conversion.

I agree to this. Conversion is more important. Higher or lower bounce rate would not actually make much of a difference.

The rule of thumb is to keep your bounce rates as low as possible. The averages are about 50 to 60% on regular consumer sites. It really depends which niche you are competing in and how much competition you have.

Generally, you want to keep your bounce rates below 50%. Make sure you are getting traffic from relevant backlinks and keywords to get your visitors to stick more and bounce less. Also make sure that the usability of your site fosters a low bounce rate... having hard-to-find links or items will cause people to bounce.

The average bounce rates should look like this:

consumer sites: 50-60%
trade or b2b sites: 30-40%
adult fetish sites: 20-30%

First of all, bounce rate is nothing to do with that. Bounce rate is the percentage of people who land on one of your pages and then leave your site without visiting another one of your pages. Furthermore it is a silly measure of quality because in some cases it will be that the visitor lands on your site and find exactly what they want and then leave, which is the whole purpose of a search and engine and a informational site. Some types of sites are naturally going to have high bounce rates because of the nature of there content - but again this is no indication of a poor quality website.

Bounce rate should be as much as low. Make your page more interactive and have quality content, that will reduce your bounce rate.

The readers should be provided with quality content in order to keep them glued to your website and thus, reduce your bounce rate.

low bounce rate is good, it means user sticks to your site. I think less than 50% is good, though I have 0-5% on some of my sites )

50% is acceptable. If it is more than this, then it means your visitors are leaving your website very soon, without checking much pages

yes..50% or lower bounce rate is acceptable. if you have more bounce rate, it is an indicator that there is some problem (either technical or content wise) in your page..so that you can correct it...

Lower bounce rate will increase the visibility of your website over the search engines. Maximum 50 % bounce rate is acceptable.
