Do the engines understand the acronym tag?

Any evidence that if this

<acronym title="Search Engine Marketing">SEM</acronym>

is in my content, then the engines will value that as Search Engine Marketing?

I believe they don't acknowledge it... but should because it's obviously relevant.

The acronym elements <ACRONYM> abd </ACRONYM> tags indicate the presence of an abbreviation (FBI, WWW, and so on). Text marked within the acronym element may not necessarily appear any differently, but spell-checkers and speech synthesizers may find it useful to know that the marked text is an acronym, and an advanced program could use the acronym element to help construct a glossary for your document.

NOTE: Since the acronym is new html 4.0 it is not widely supported.

SEs pay little to no attention to the title attribute on any element, from what I've seen. It can be added to any element at all, but they don't really use it yet. They may do in a few weeks / months / years though, and they definitely should use it.

yeah, if they don't do anything in a href tag, they definitely won't in an acronym tag.
