Re-submitting site maps - how often?

Just a quick question for you guys out there rgerading site maps.
assuming that content is still well and truly king (defo in my opinion), then if new site content is being added on a regular basis, which would you say is better:

re-seubmit a new site map to google each month?
update pages daily and this way easier chance of being crawled?
temporarily speed up crawl rate on webmaster tools?

I'd be interested to hear opinions as I have usually just done number 2, but with relatively small sites (less than 80 pages, say). If it was a bigger site, news feed, etc. I'm guessing google will find them anyway, so re-submitting site maps might get annoying (for both) right?

I resubmit when the content changes. usually daily or every other day. But I got individual site maps for each section of my site. So when one sections changes I only have to resubmit that 1 sections sitemap.

x2049. ??? You can only submit 1 site map to google, and you can't just re-submit a "section". Plus verification takes more than 24 hours, so if you re-submit daily, surely you've never got a verified sitemap online?!

Do you mean that you just add (copy and paste) your new aditions of content and re-submit the same site map? I'm guessing that's what you mean?

We got 15 site maps registered for the site I am speaking of.. For a total of 3000 indexed urls.. Additionally we have each sub folder registered as it's own site inside webmaster tools so we can have folder specific stats for seo performance reasons. When one sub folders content is changed, then we resubmit that sub folders site map. I have never noticed a penalty or any indexing issues with this method.

I just let google re-spider my current sitemap. The sitemap is updated as I add pages and content to the site so I don't have to bother with that and google seems to check it more than once a week, so I don't see why I would submit it faster than that.

I ping the major search engines every couple days, provided I have updated the content. You can ping msn, yahoo, google, and ask via this tool

I use Google Sitemap plugin for WOrdpress. It auto submits the sitemap, whenever there is a change in any post or any new post is added.

Quite useful.

I usually do it every week. I also suggest pinging your site every updates you make on it. But be caution on pinging, do not over-ping, It will harm your site.

When you change content... Or each week. If you update sitemap all the time, you can always just send Google a ping.
