Quality is better than quantity
Choosing who links to you is just as important as how many link to you.
For example, say you sell landscaping and gardening supplies. Having a link placed on a web site for patios or home improvements will bring in traffic that is more likely to be interested in purchasing your product, than traffic that comes from a computer web site or a general links page.
How do you go about getting these kinds of links?
These sorts of quality reciprocal links usually only come about by negotiation and mutual agreement.
Once you find a business or web site you would like to link with, simply contact them and ask if you can have a link from their web site to yours.
But another very important benefit from having a high number of quality links is the effect it has on search engine ranking. A lot of the major search engines use "link popularity" as a main factor in determining where your site should rank. If your site has a lot of high quality sites linking to it, the search engines can assume it is a popular site and therefore should rank higher.
The search engines are smart though, in that they are now starting to look at not only the number of links pointing to your site, but the type of links they are. The types of links can be viewed in two ways:
1. Links pointing to your site from other popular sites can indicate that your site is of better quality and deserves higher ranking.
That is, a handful of good quality links, with some engines, is better than 100 links from sites that are not popular.
2. Some search engines can check the content of the sites linking in to your site (and in some cases, the content of the sites you link out to).
Therefore, if a gardening site is pointing to yours, this could be seen as saying your site is about gardening in some way.
If the content on your site is about gardening, then this will increase that theme even more and you may be ranked higher on gardening keywords.
Quality links means links from related pages and with high rankings in search engines.
Building Quality and Relevant back links is a dual advantage where you attract vistors from the reciprocal linking site and simultaneously boost your websites Page Rank.

anyways, i do agree. one should be mindful in trading links. most visitors are looking for something and that something must be related to your site's content.

absolutely! sometime quantity is also considered to be spamming, while having a quality is worth reading for. Like for example in blog, even though you got lots of post a day if it isn't a good post or a quality post traffic won't be coming easily to your blog. While if you have a good content there is a chance that you'll get some regular visitors from the traffic your getting...

You could have just given us the link of the article and we would have got the stuff that you were trying to share. Well, it was not really worth the effort that you took to do it...

I totally agree with quality. But sometimes, those sites with PR0, where your link came from, can still gain a pagerank.

Link Exchages
I get allot of those automated emails from Web Designers, and SEO Web sites where they want a link exchange. It's very annoying and selfish because they always want to place my link on some crap site

Although quality is better that quantity but sometime you need the huge traffic & huge traffic means more exposure & further more exposure mean quantity. So quantity is sometimes needed to build quality.

We always try to compare both (quality and quantity). Knowing quality works is always needed on every work. But can you think of this thing?
QUALITY + QUANTITY = Much Better work
Am I right on this thing? If you are doing a quality work, that's Good... But my point in this things is.. Do lots of quality work. Put some quantity on your quality work to have more effective results on what you are doing.
Make some reflection on this.
