Some very valuable points there. I just thought it would increase the IP count by one thus rendering it a pointless task moving a domain.
I have never seen a case where crosslinking is bad and all I want to do is give off some Page Rank from my portfolio to my client sites on the same IP and they link back on every page in the footer credit... like every other site does inadvertently.

Ive been testing this very thing for the last 4 months, just to observe SE behavior, and effect on PR. I have 4 sets of domains, about 30 per set, no more than 3 domians per C class. In each set, all domians were purchased the same day, but I put one or two old domains I owned from previous SEO tests with some PR, just to send spiders to each domain. I also use a cloaker to generate relevent keyword pages . Im doing this in a very competive two word combo.
In the 4 months, all of the the PR from the new domains have had a gradual increase, from nil to 3, 4, even 5. Maybe there are errors in the way I break it down, but best I can tell, its the linking and the C class IP factor.

yeah exactly! multiple links from same domain name will increase PR. This is so much proven... Check Bls for any site of PR greater than 4.
It have all links from its own domain.. Since the site is having PR greater than 4, I am assuming inner pages having PR 4 or more.
They will contribute to its PR..... but don`t ask them to increase your rankings to that extent.
Same is the case of different domains in same IP...
Hey ferret! hows your search for finding a better host going on... If you get some good deal, pls let me know too....

Thanks Scott and Nandini for the great post.
I recently came across a PR 7 website which has over 20,000 sitewide backlinks from two totally unrelated. PR7 sites The site hardly has any other backlinks, but they still managed to get a PR of 7. Will such strategy of buying links help all the times?

Thanx, I've enjoyed reading the thread. It helped me to clarify the different IPs thing. However, I still have the question about determining the degree of relevance between sites, as it was in the case of the football clubs, why all the links from top ranking sites will have no effect?

Martyan, the football site example was about linking to the high PR football site, not getting a link from it.

A.N.Onym, thank you. Have you got any suggestions on the possible degrees of relevance?

Relevance is, basically, whether your keyword or related keywords or keyphrases appear in the document and in the body and text links of the pages, linking to your page.
A relevant page has keywords in title, meta tags, the header and subheadings, several times in the body text, etc.
So, a relevant link is a link from that page with the keyphrase, related to your page.
The less a keyword is met on a page or on pages, linking to the page, the less relevant it is. Now remember that you need to take synonyms or word derivatives into account here as well. Also, I suspect a page about widgets on a site about gadgets may be less relevant, than the same page on a site about widgets (if you are getting a link to a page about widgets as well, that is).
Nothing mystic here, really.
