I completely agree with you .It don't make a huge difference.Even I don't know the criteria they use to approve websites .My competitor website is DMOZ listed and mine not approved till now .I submitted it 5 months ago
So just fill their submission form and move ahead with other SEO tasks

I submitted four months ago and still nothing. I agree just submit and focus your effort on other SEO methods that you have more control on.

DMOZ is a well known directory but I don't know why it took so long for them to approve. Not only 1-3 months but it could take 6 months. We should do other effective ways rather than waiting our site/s to appeared on their listing.

DMOZ
In my humble estimation, DMOZ is a failure. It was great 3 or 4 years ago, but now administration is such a nightmare that submitting is a worthless endeavor. A year ago I thought it would be worthwhile to help out so I volunteered to be an administrator for a couple of categories that I'm familiar with. That was a waste of time, too.
If you want links to your site, there are better ways. If you're dead set on getting a headache its easier to bang your head on the wall. Either way, DMOZ won't help you.

For dmoz you need to choose your words carefully, dont say things like we are number one etc. Submit it once per mth, keep doing it for 1 year, if you still dont get listed forget it.
I personally think its less important now. A few years back if you were on dmoz, you would be in google. Now you don't need it, social networks, blogs, forums and the like are far more important now, or at least that's what I think.

I don't want to discourage anybody here, but practically from my side, DMOZ is useless now.

Please remember that DMOZ is not designed with web masters in mind, it is designed to be a categorised directory for the benefit of people looking for that sort of information. How good a site is in terms of build is of no consequence to us, we are looking for sites with unique information that are useful to the consumer.
Please also remember that no one is charged for being listed or suggesting a site and all editors are volunteers working in their spare time to build categories that are of interest to them. So some categories attract more attention than others.
It's also true that we do not offer to review suggested sites in good time, it can take from a few days to a few years for a review. Depends on editors wanting to work in that area.
By all means suggest sites, but please don't do it on the assumption it means that you will get listed or get listed in days, weeks or months. Just in case you were not aware we do not inform people if we use a site or reject a site, sorry.

Hi,
I think there are already 2 threads running in this forum about "use of DMoz" so starting new thread for the same make no sense.

DMOZ is still a big deal, you are all angry because your sites are not yet listed there. It is very hard for any site to get listed in DMOZ and this is one of the things that makes them a "BIG DEAL" if your site is not yet listed there, keep on trying harder.

DMOZ is a little bit important but not as big as the major site or search engines that we go through. actually, I don't use DMOZ.

A DMOZ listing was even important. Currently, an entry is not important.
