What are your favorite on-page optimizing tools?
I'm looking for tools to help me optimize specific web pages or articles to rank as highly as possible for a specific keyword phrase. I'm not talking about off-page optimization stuff like building backlinks, but on-page stuff like use of H1, bold, keyword density, etc.
I've bumped into a few that are web-based, and found some that you download and install. Some are free and some cost money. I'm trying to figure out which ones are best to help me get my optimization "just right"--not overly optimized, but not leaving too much on the table either. I don't mind investing in a tool if it's genuinely worth the money.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Do we need tools for on page optimization? I never use any. I just use a html editor like dreamweaver for making things bold , H1 or setting up meta tags and all.and for keyword density you have to check your page on browser( firefox for me) and check it . A addon is also available to check keyword density on firefox i.e. search status

Basically, I use Dreamweaver to edit any changes that I want for a certain page. The an FTP client to upload the page. That's all.

are the pages in your website rather long?
if so, consider using anchors to re-link to the top of the page using keywords - obviously not too excessively (you dont want to end up in the sandbox)
this actually helped me a ton.
there's my newbie cents.

I've tested out quite a few pieces of software over the years. Currently I like some of the things link-assistant.com has come up with. I also use Google's Adwords tool for my keyword research. And just like any tool you uses I also check out the actual listings in Google and else where and apply what I know not just what a tool if telling me.

Also, you can consider using g00gle alerts and feed reader as a tool. I wont detail it much. Just make some creativity and some research.
