SEO quesiton about a blog

I have a blog that I started off along time ago with google news feeds for posts. I stopped those some time ago and just write my own posts now.

The questions is...should I remove all those crappy news posts or what should I do about them?

even without thinking about SEO, it's your blog and you want to have quality content in it.

If you think these posts are "crappy", just delete them. If you think they add value to your blog, keep' em.

That's that simple.

They are of no value and lots of them have junk characters and other display problems. Any negative effects by deleting them?

au contraire mon ami.

I would go right ahead and delete.

If anybody would have found your website through these posts (I doubt it but what if), how long do you think they would stay on your blog, seeing all the junk characters etc...

There is no point driving people to your traffic from the front door if it's to lose them by the back door.

Fewer relevant traffic is better than lots of traffic that bounces right out.

And if I access your blog through a legitimate page and find one of those bad post full of junk characters, you will lose all credibility to me.

But that's just my point of view.

Unique valuable content is still the key If they are crap, then there will be no reason for them to still remain to your blog/ site.

I am actually more curious on why at the first place have you used those posts for your blog if now you think they are crappy... how was the traffic then anyways? did you have high bounce rate because of the past posts that your blog had? if you had links to your posts back then, that may affect the backlinks of the certain sites that you have link to in your posts, if it is your site, then once crawled, the backlinks would be lost, but that is really not important, whats more important in this case is the traffic that you are receiving.. if before you had high bounce rate cause of this posts, then you should delete them, cause even though those post may rank in SERP and may get you traffic, the visitors that you can get may not see your blog as that of a good quality.

Something to consider is -
Most site's that grab information from other posts have already been duplicated many times before. Google sees all those posts as duplicate content and you get no positive rating from them, so I would just delete them completely and start over. If you really want to keep the amount of links and keywords they may contain for SEO purposes, you can edit each post and rewrite them a little to make it appear as original content. Then just allow the spiders to recrawl your site and you're back in business. You don't lose any pages and you actually may generate more traffic for yourself.

Its OK to delete some junk post that are not worth keeping. It will just confuse your readers.

Instead of deleting that CRAPPY post why not edit it with some rich content. This will give an added advantage as you are updating instead of deleting.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm just deleting them. I would modify them but their are over 600. I just had them running on autopilot for a while not knowing what I wanted to do with the site. That's why they are there to begin with.
