Do robots see text that is quoted?

If you quote something in forums or elsewhere, is that searched by robots or is it omitted?

I suppose robots see and follow all kind of text unless you specify nofollow tag with it.

that's not completely true.
you can hide some text with some javascript. My company uses it to hide emails from robot to prevent us from getting spam
